DDR4 RAM 2400Mhz runs at 2133Mhz only on legion y520

2019-07-01, 21:18 PM

I decided to upgrade my RAM from 6gb (4+2) to 20gb(16+4), before I upgrade my ram it was running at 2400MHz, now that I replaced the 2gb stick for the 16gb stick my ram is running at 2133 MHz (both sticks are 2400MHz), I have searched a little and I found some guys talking about enable the XMP in the bios but I don't know how to do that

Task manager can simply be showing the wrong information. Use something like CPUz to test how fast the RAM actually is.

Well it happens, RAMs behave odd when mixed.

If the 2 RAMs are different ie Brand, Latency, CL values, then at times they just go back to the base clock of 2133MHz.

Anything else more than 2133MHz is usually achieved through overclocking or like you said XMP. I don't believe lenovo laptops have anything related to XMP  in BIOS, so the RAM will most probably keep running at 2133MHz (unless you buy the exact same RAM)

You should not see any performance difference though. It is negligible.

At times,  the software also does not show the correct values, try different softwares and see if any of them show what the RAMs are capable of and what they are runnning at.
