Re: DO NOT UPDATE BIOS 4KCN43WW ON LEGION Y520

Oh cheers, didn't know about that, but googling around showed me there was a driver or something...

But no, with the latest FW my CPU doesn't stay high. Only game I play these days is the Talos Principle, at full specs, heat and noise seem to be the same as always.

Re: DO NOT UPDATE BIOS 4KCN43WW ON LEGION Y520

Don´t know what exactly the problem is but it seems you are all on I7 7700HQ??

I have the I5 7300HQ and as i said the 43ww Bios and everything is up to date. I dont have any problems with that.

Works perfectly for me in all games with best performance what gtx 1050ti can handle. No lags at all.

My temp is now between 80 and 85C°.

With all other Versions of Bios my Y520 does not go over 80C° .

Re: DO NOT UPDATE BIOS 4KCN43WW ON LEGION Y520

This thread contains user submitted links to at least one packaged BIOS update for the Y520.

However, please note that THE DIGITAL SIGNATURE for the update file has been removed. Do not try to download and install BIOS updates from this thread that are uploaded by users, because their original/content cannot be verified. You have no idea what you are really installing! Files without digital signatures cannot be verified as coming from Lenovo!
(they might contain the real BIOS update, and they might work ok, but the problem is you cannot verify this fact, and you cannot know if the package has been altered in any way - like adding malware, etc)

When running these, Windows will tell you who the publisher is. If the publisher is unknown or is not Lenovo, you should not run these files. Make sure it says: Verified published: Lenovo. You can also right click on the file, select properties and verify a digital signature is present. See attached image.

Here are links to official versions from Lenovo, with digital signature. These links point to Lenovo servers, are HTTPS and after download you can verify the digital signature in them.

These versions were mentioned in this thread I think.

Version 4KCN43WW (latest version):
https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/4kcn43ww.exe

Version 4KCN40WW:
https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/4kcn40ww.exe

Version 4KCN30WW:

https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/4kcn30ww.exe

Finally... someone cares about what is the right way to do things. (As far as downgrading is concern) also +1 to Lenovo because they actually officially allow BIOS downgrade.

Now downgrading is not the final solution, the problem has to be identified by Lenovo and fixed in future update. Hopefully they have already noticed the issue. Now we need to wait for fix.

you can't be serious ..
most users posted real trusted links, and users who uploaded the file, like me, have no intentions to harm people .. so please stop this attitude

Re: DO NOT UPDATE BIOS 4KCN43WW ON LEGION Y520

I did not say you or the other uploade wanted harm. But good intentions are not enough. Posting files that are not the originals are suspicious and wrong. Posting a modified file or packing it yourself is not ok. Digital signstures are there for a reason.

Post links to the official files, there is nothing wrong with that.

Re: DO NOT UPDATE BIOS 4KCN43WW ON LEGION Y520

I downloaded them, and checked them out. They were missing the digital signatures. I am a software developer and work with these kinds of things daily myself.

Missing digital signature means it is not the original file. If you download from Lenovo's servers, those file have the digital signature intact.

These signatures guarantee the files are really from the publisher (in this case, Lenovo), and they have not been modified in any way.
