Maybe this BIOS update is for certain batch of Y520 which there's a factory defect that the System will Freeze while the PC is running nearly idle and connected to AC Power , well after 20 - 30 minute this issue will show up and force You to reboot the system ( PS : My laptop is within this batch lol. ), after update the BIOS from 40WW to 43WW the freezing issue is gone for good .For the overheating issue it's quite normal, clean your Air Vent and use Laptop pad and Lagging issue is because the Intel Processor will thermal throttle to prevent damage to itself due to the processor is over 100°C, You can't disable it except Undervolt and turn off Turbo boost ( via Power Option ) to prevent Overheat (2.7 GHz is enough ) . I been gaming ( AAA Games like Rainbow Six Siege ) + doing assignment with my Y520 with no issue at all after some twerks
My Spec :
Model : Y520-15IKBN made in 2017
BIOS : Come with 40WW updated to 43WW later
Processor : Intel i7 - 7700HQ
RAM : 2x8 GB - 16GB in Total
GPU : GTX1050
Storage : OEM
This picture show the setting I use .
Comparision : With and Without Turbo boost
Since the Undervolt will cool down Your Laptop for about 5 - 6°C, it doesn't help at all right? So here's the big deal of turning turbo boost OFF my dear
Picture below shows my laptop's temperature with Turbo boost off while playing AAA Games ( Extreme cooling : off )
Highest : 68°C Lowest : 66°C
