Dolby App and Dolby Atmos in Lenovo Y520

2019-03-05, 19:01 PM

Hello Guys,

This question has been killing me for I can't get correct answer anywhere on google . So, I have Lenovo Legion Y520 with Dolby App preinstalled using HD Realtek Audio drivers. I'm wondering if the Dolby Atmos for Headphones i,e; available as a Spatial Sound for windows since Windows Fall Creator's Update is a good fit and work with each other? Is there any Legion Y520 user who bought Dolby Atmos for headphones and saw any difference in sound surround system ?

TL:DR-Is it worth purchasing Dolby Atmos from Dolby Access in Windows Store for a Y520 user who already has Dolby App pre-installed ?

I've tried out dolby atmos for headphones and it really didn't do anything other than destroy my audio. It might be different for other people, but that's what happened with me. Sounds were muffled and a lot of other stuff.

If you search up, you'll find there's quite a number of people who prefer Windows Sonic (the other option for multi-channel) over Dolby Atmos. So you can try the 30 day thing and compare with Windows Sonic. Make the choice yourself for your ears.

I have the Legion Y530. I bought the Dolby Access app because I think It's amazing, my games are much more imersive, I can sense sounds even from above my head, especialy in atmos enabled games. (but also work on 5.1 and 7.1 games and movies)

It is recommended to turn off the native Dolby app, but they can work together... I set the Dolby app to "custom" and only enabled volume normalization, because some games are  quieter than others.

You can try Atmos for headphones for 30 days before purchasing, if you have a good headset I definitely think its well worth the price.

Oh hey, thank you for reply . The thing is when I turn off my Dolby native app the sound through headphones is so low that's it's barely audible.

I have Sennheiser HD 4.40BT headset and I turned on both 30 day trial of Dolby Atmos with Dolby native app. I had to turn up the volume all the way to 100% for some reason when I turn on this Dolby Atmos feature. It's sound same as when I listen to music with only Dolby native app music mode on and so I was wondering if it's the same case with all of y520 users .

I would happily consider purchasing if it "actually" improves the audio of the system and if anyone really did tried it out on Y520 till now.

I actually wonder if changing my headset improves overall audio of the system but they said it works on 'all' devices in specific . So I'm still in loop ?...

Dolby Atmos needs multi channel audio sources to work, so music have no effect, It's literally off, only games and movies work.

You can fix the low volume by setting the native dolby app to custom and enabling normalization.
