Extending battery life in Legion 7i

2020-09-07, 1:28 AM

I wanted to check if anyone had any tips on how to extend the battery life of my Legion 7i. As I understand it iCUE really drains the battery quickly for some reason even with all the rgb switched off. Ideally  I'd like to deactive iCUE without uninstalling if it's possible since I'd still like to use the software. Also if there are any other tips to extend battery life besides putting the laptop on power saver mode and turning off bluetooth that would be appreciated.

I am wondering the same thing.  I found another issue as well.  My unit had a fully charged battery and I turned it off, unplugged it, and put it aside for a few days.  I started it up and the battery was at 72% with only 45 minutes remaining!  This is completely unacceptable and I just ordered another 7i for homeschooling. Anyone else seeing this?

Uninstall the software. You will still be able to adjust the RGB with the FN + up/down. The battery length will be insane afterwards

You can fix the battery drain issue without uninstalling iCUE if you want to continue using the software to customize your keyboard lighting. Follow these steps:

-Press Windows key + R.

-Type services.msc and press enter to open up the Services snap-in.

-Scroll down to the C's and locate three Corsair services (Corsair Gaming Audio Configuration, Corsair LLA Service, Corsair Service).

-Right click each service and select properties.

-Change start up type value to disabled.

-Press Apply.

-Press the Stop button to stop the service.

As I have mentioned in numerous other threads, this will prevent the service from bursting the CPU clockrate to max... which kills battery. The services will not restart after a reboot or shutdown cycle, however bear in mind that if you update the iCUE software, you will have to repeat the above process since the update effectively enables the services again.

Hope this helps.

Re:Extending battery life in Legion 7i

2020-11-12, 13:30 PM

I had battery life in range of 5.5 to 6.5 hours (web surfing, not gaming) for a few weeks. Suddenly my battery life, via readings/notifications to charge, went down to 1.5 - 2.5 hours. From beginning, had uninstalled Corsair. And had turned off both RGB and lit keyboard using FN down arrow.

So I tried calibrating the battery. This worked out well for me.

I used the steps to manually calibrate battery for Windows 10 from these articles:

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-calibrate-battery-your-windows-10-laptop

archived version: https://archive.is/fy34N

https://windowsreport.com/calibrate-laptop-battery/

archived version: https://archive.is/RdAOi

After calibrating the battery, I got about 7.5 hours battery life, and now have been getting about 6.5 to 7.5 hours battery life for a few days, with battery saver turned on (web surfing, not gaming). Much better for me now…

[Details: At Step: “Charge your battery” - I charged with Power Off (for ~1.5 hours to 100%), + kept plugged in for some time, per instructions (I chose for 2 hrs), before powering on and unplugging.

At Step: Unplug and discharge - During draining down, I had Power On and used computer normally.

At Step: “Charge your battery again” - I charged with Power Off.

The 2nd article at link above suggests calibrating battery once every 2 to 3 months.]
