Frequent Dropping of 5GHz Network for Legion 5-17IMH05H Type 81Y8

2021-09-01, 8:11 AM

I have a new (from May 2021) Legion 5-17IMH05H (Lenovo) - Type 81Y8 with Intel AX201 160MHz card.

The 5GHz connection frequently drops and connects to the 2.5 GHz automatically. I have settings to prefer 5GHz. The switch usually happens seamlessly, and then I manually try to connect to the 5Ghz. Sometimes it connects without internet, sometimes it connects fine.  I have the latest Intel driver for the Intel AX201 160MHz card.

Any tips or help?

It is a USA laptop but I and my Lenovo are located in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Try changing the channel in your router, there may be another router nearby interfering because it's using the same channel.

LEGION-5-15ACH6H, 82JU002YUK, Ryzen 7 5800H + Geforce RTX 3070 16Gb Hyper X, WD Black NVMe, FHD 165Hz, BIOS 44ww.

Thank you for your response! I tried and no improvement. None of my other devices (phone, 2 other laptops) have any problem connecting to this 5GHz network. Wi-fi analyzer says only 1 access point connect to this channel. All the other channels switchable from the router are also using 1 access point.

Have you by any chance got a dual band wifi USB adapter you can try.

Just disable the Intel one in Device manager and run it on the USB.

If that were to work OK, all would point to the Intel card that's fitted or it's aerial cable that's clipped on to it.
