HDD (D: drive) is detected by BIOS but not Windows 10 Legion y720 laptop

2019-11-04, 15:34 PM

When running Windows 10 I got a random Memory Management error and my computer restarted. After that, I could no longer access my D: drive. I have checked the HDD and reconnected the cable just in case, but I still have the problem. In BIOS my HDD appears under the specifications tab as Disk 2 (SDD is DIsk 1 think) but for some reason, Windows 10 states that the drive is unavailable and it doesn't appear on Device Manager or Disk Manager. How can I fix this?

By removing and reinserting the CMOS battery the problem was solved for now.

I just checked and the HDD disappeared from my device manager. It seems as though the HDD was recognized for a few moments, but then it was removed from my device manager. Could the CMOS battery be dead and that is what's causing the issues?

The CMOS battery does not seem to be the problem as I just replaced it and I checked the old one's voltage which was still slightly above 3 volts

It will sometimes appear in the device manager on startup but will disappear after a while. I think whenever I try to read from the HDD it will disappear.
