HELP! Legion 7 AMD keyboard only works under BIOS but not in Windows

Hi all, I can really use some help here. I just received my Legion 7 AMD on Monday and it's already starting to give me a weird problem today. I've been using external keyboard and mouse with the laptop except during initial setup so I am not sure when the problem started. I took the laptop to another room to use without the external keyboard/mouse today and realized that laptop's keyboard isn't working anymore, however track pad works. Fn key seems to work, as well as keyboard backlight/RGB short cut but hitting space or up/down arrow keys by themselves do nothing. The strange thing is as I was desperately trying different things, I tried to enter BIOS to look for anything remotely has to do with keyboard. To my surprise I was able to enter BIOS by hitting F2 key and from what I can keyboard works fine in BIOS so it doesn't seem to be hardware related. I've only installed some benchmark software and Norton 360 on the laptop, nothing that could cause keyboard to stop working I think but I went ahead and performed system restore wiping everything to start anew. Unfortunately this did not help, even after full system restore the problem persists. I am totally out of ideas, can anyone help? Is there a different way to factory reset? Image file maybe? Any help'd be appreciated, thanks.

Re:HELP! Legion 7 AMD keyboard only works under BIOS but not in Windows

Hello @hxj64631 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Kindly try uninstalling the HID compliant keyboard drivers from the device manager.

Once that is done please reboot the machine then test it out if it solves the issue.

Hope this helps.

Re:HELP! Legion 7 AMD keyboard only works under BIOS but not in Windows

Under HID I see 4 items,

HID-compliant touch pad

HID-compliant vendor-defined device

I2C HID Device

Microsoft Input Configuration Device

Deleting first or 3rd item result in lose of touch pad use and I have to long press power to shut down and restart the laptop so I can never delete everything under HID during one attempt. After restart Windows reinstalls deleted items under HID but keyboard is still not working.

Hello @hxj64631 ,

Sorry for the late reply.

Can you try uninstalling the PS/2 keyboard drivers in the keyboard section of the device manager instead?

Re:HELP! Legion 7 AMD keyboard only works under BIOS but not in Windows

That was actually the first thing I tried and no it didn't help. Windows just reinstalls the driver after reboot but keyboard still doesn't work. Anyway, I ordered and downloaded restore media from Lenovo and created a bootable usb with it, using that I was able to recover keyboard after full reflash of the laptop. The problem seems to be related to Microsoft Garage's Mouse without Borders but I can't seem to find any mention of the same issue anywhere so I am not sure what actually happened.

Hello @hxj64631 ,

Sorry for the late reply.

Glad to read that a reinstall fixes it.

It might have been caused by a bad driver or some other possible conflicting Windows install.

Hopefully this would remain as a permanent fix.

Re:HELP! Legion 7 AMD keyboard only works under BIOS but not in Windows

I was sharing my keyboard/mouse using Microsoft's Mouse Without Borders and I believe that caused the problem. Downloading img file from Lenovo and did a full reinstall fixed the problem but that was the only thing that worked, factory restore does not fix the issue. Since then I have been using other software KVM without problem.

Re:HELP! Legion 7 AMD keyboard only works under BIOS but not in Windows

Well to clarify, the only thing that did not work for me was the keyboard. I was able to boot into windows just fine so if you can only boot into boot manager you have a different issue.
