Help with ssd

Hello ! My current laptop is the model lenovo y520-15ikbn 80wk004nlm  And my questions are :

Does my pc has the extra spot to use the sdd while using a hdd ?

What type of ssd is compatible with my pc?

And which of the next 3 ssd would you recommend to me ?

PCIe Gen3x4 P34A80 256GB
Kingston SA2000M8/250GB

Corsair Force MP510 240GB

Sorry if this is very basic but I am very new to all of this word of pc specs and I dont have the budget to replace things like this Smiley Happy

Re: Help with ssd

Hi Nailus,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The Y520 is capable of using a M.2 SSD at the same time as an HDD. You can use the photo below to know where to attach the M.2 SSD you can also use the manual in this link (page 36).

I would also recommend going for the SSD that is both budget friendly and is easy to find.

Hope this helps.

Got a 1tb max500 ssd crucial for 80$. It works flawlessly on y740 with 1tb m2.win is on m2, and some games i play alot, the rest on ssd but i don’t feel a difference.(witcher stutters a little dunno why) i keep it in ultra 144hz, or low, doesn’t matter, maybe i ll swap it on m2 to see.

Re: Help with ssd

Hi friend, I am too is looking to replace my SSD which is currently only 250gb, my HDD stopped working at some point for no reason that I know. Probably overusing it.

But that SSD you mentioned is it compatiblef for the Legion Y520??

And did you manage to move all your previous SSD to the new SSD to use as a boot up drive??

Btw to answer your worry, I did play the withcer aswell and I think the game is capped at 30 fpsthats why it stutters

Re: Help with ssd

For my undestading yes , all three ssd I mentioned are comptaible with the  model y520

And yes you can move all your files from one ssd to another ,if you dont have a hdd where you can transfer your files to the new ssd  you will need a ssd adapter to do so because the model only has a port for one ssd m.2(so you can transfer files and the OS from one to the other ) , just check is the same  type (M.2) , the same same memory storage  or bigger

Re: Help with ssd

Hi all,

Maybe I can be of assistance.

Some members have already had success with cloning/copying the contents of their HDD's to newer SSD's by using programs such as Macrium Reflect.

You can also use this article for some helpful steps.

I also do not have a Y520-15IKBN available for testing but I am currently running a setup with a 1050ti graphics card and I am only able to reach up to 40-50 fps with occasional drops whenever Witcher 3 renders something new.

I suggest turning the game settings down a bit and check if you still have any performance drops.

Hope this helps.
