How to disable or change RGB profile during start up - Legion 7i

2020-07-25, 12:59 PM

I have looked everywhere in the BIOS settings, iCue software but there is no way to disable or change RGB lighting when I start the laptop. What is the solution?

There isn't one. The Y740 had the exact same issue and Lenovo didn't even bother to fix it before releasing a new product.

They really should introduce a way to disable RGB in the bios for people who bought this laptop for the business-friendly looks. Especially if they want to use this laptop on the go, the battery bug(s) in the Corsair software cut the battery life in half making it useless without AC connected unfortunately.

Did Lenovo ever respond to requests for this?

Edit: I submitted a support request via the website, we'll see what they say.

Have you heard anything back or found a way to disable RGB on bootup for office us?

Thanks

Just some nonsense about there being a chip somewhere that controls this and that there isn't a way to disable it on startup. Seems to me the bios needs to tell that chip to start so the bios should then also be able to disable said chip..

Anyway, I did find that iCue isn't necessary. You can just uninstall the whole thing and then use the FN + spacebar and FN + arrow down to disable the light. It will remember being disabled on sleep mode but when you restart you need to disable RGB manually again.

There's also a button in Vantage and in the Vantage quick settings to enable/disable keyboard back light but that doesn't work for me.

Have you tried downloading Vantage Enterprise and seeing if the option is there? I've been reading about it, seems difficult to uninstall it afterwards though so word of advice.

Where did you find info on that? I'm a bit reluctant to try if it's not easy to remove again afterwards, a bit of Googling didn't yield me any results on how this should work better with Vantage Enterprise.

Also, RE: my previous post: the remembering is inconsistent but I think it will remember when the laptop hibernates and not when it goes to sleep. In other words, you spend quite a bit of time thumping the FN + Down Arrow :(.

I ended up disconnecting the cables for vent light and front U light.

I spent months researching laptops before I made the decision to buy the Legion 7i.  I am not a gamer and don't really care about all the RGB stuff.  I got this machine because of its power and understated looks.  Please give me the ability to turn off all the lights when booting.  You can't imagine all the looks I get when I boot up this machine and the light show starts.
