Ideapad Y700 15ISK - SM951 AHCI

Hello !

I'd like to buy this Y700 : 80NV00HNFR and I was wandering which SSDs were compatible

I've read many posts but i'm not sure about this particular model...

I know the Samsung 850 evo m2 works but I'd like to get the SM951 AHCI

I'd use the SM951 AHCI for booting windows 10

Thanks !

Re: Ideapad Y700 15ISK - SM951 AHCI

Thanks for the fast response

The manual tells me that the PM951 (PCI-e NVME) and the PM871 (SATA) are compatible (I think), but it sadly doesn't tell me that the SM951 (PCI-e AHCI) is compatible. The discussion link you gave me shows that it might be the case though, so I'm not sure...

Re: Ideapad Y700 15ISK - SM951 AHCI

Hi Horusxav ,

Basing on the FRU listing as you have confirmed (PM951 (PCI-e NVME) and the PM871 (SATA) are compatible) and it may be a problem in the recognition of the BIOS for a SM951 (PCI-e AHCI) .

Checking also on other new systemboard BIOS , if the BIOS boot don't provide option for switching to AHCI then usually BIOS detection appears to be a challenge as far as what I noticed on OEM machines.

As on the discussion , OP used this SSD (features saying AHCI model) .

I would rather recommend to have the ones listed on the hardware manual as it was tested compatible with the model.

Update us how it would work best for you.

Regards

Re: Ideapad Y700 15ISK - SM951 AHCI

I think I'll just buy a 850 EVO m2 (SATA) then, there shouldn't be any issue.

Thanks for your help !
