Ideapad Y700 Battery Drains Quickly

I got a Lenovo Ideapad Y700 about 5 months ago and recently I've been having the issue where my battery says it's at around 50 or 60% and then just drops to 7%. Not sure why this is happening. Does anyone have any ideas?!

Re: Ideapad Y700 Battery Drains Quickly

Hi there, James            -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Sounds like a defective battery to me but first I l try to investigate to fix the problem

Go to your power management settings (control panel > power options)
change the default behaviour when you close the lid of the laptop to "shut down" (i'm sure it's set on sleep, or hibernate)

Check out what the power button is set to do... it might be set to hibernate or sleep instead of shutting down.
Take your time, go through the advanced menu looking for power settings that indicate this laptop might be hibernating or sleeping rather than powering down.

You could also try a "hard reset" for the PSU:

Note: To perform a hard reset, unplug the AC power adapter and remove the battery, and then press and hold down the Power button for about 6 seconds. This will drain any residual charge in the capacitors and reset the power management controls to their default condition.

Update us how it goes.

Regards,

Re: Ideapad Y700 Battery Drains Quickly

The issue is not when the lid is closed or the power is turned off, the issue is when I am using it. I will be typing in a word document, for example, and the battery is about half full, and then it will just suddenly drop to 7%. It does also charge rather quickly as well. I did not reset the PSU because after taking the screws out, the back did not come off easily and I did not want to, as someone online suggested, pry it open with a crowbar. I do not feel comfortable doing that because I do not want to damage my laptop. Is there anything else that can be done or is this a defective battery? The laptop is still under warrenty.

The issue still has not been resolved. Do you have any other solutions? Or is it a defective battery? If the battery is defective, how do I get a replacement one?

If it is under warranty I would recommend contacting Lenovo service centres and applying the normal phone techniques to get it replaced promptly.

Re: Ideapad Y700 Battery Drains Quickly

Hello Shashi,

Thanks for the update. I too own a Y700 which I got about a month ago and the battery works fine from 100 or 60 % till 50% then it drops immediately to 6%  and this has happened multiple times while using it, turning it up and all sorts of ways possible.

Just to figure it out, how many defectives do you sell? Or is it that the ones on "sale" are defectives? I am sure the warranty covers it (got an accidental one).

Thanks again,

Himadri
