Ideapad Y700 Laptop - Brand new and hard drive is 70GB full

2016-03-31, 0:02 AM

I literally just opened and turned on my brand new Lenovo Ideapad Y700 Laptop received today, and the 120GB hard drive is 70GB full. The storage details says 40GB of that is being used by system files. Can this possibly be true? Is it Windows 10?

Should I have gotten a 1 TB model? It would be nice if Lenovo warned you that you will be 65% full by buying a 120GB hard drive.

Windows 10 takes up around 15-20 GB on disk, and then you have the hidden System partion(s) with the Lenovo recovery software and the Windows 10 installer as well, which take up another 25-30 GB.    You also have the installed software that comes bundled on the systgem too, so it is easy to get to 70GB.

The good news is that Lenovo has a 30 day return period, so if you are not satisfied and need more space, return the one you bought and get the one with the 1TB drive.

Funny how times have changed, my first system with a hard drive had one with 10MB of storage, and sounded like a train rumbling down the track when it spun up..    How times have changed...back then the thought of having 50GB of storage was pure science fiction.
