Ideapad y700 hard drive whinning sounds

Anyone has ever noticed a noise in your hard drive that sounds like the old data from dial internet or some kind of whining?

Is it a problem? I didnt identifyed any bad blocks in that.

Re: Ideapad y700 hard drive whinning sounds

Hi there, Flavio                       -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

I think that the whining noise is from the charger, not the computer itself. This usually happens since the charger is transferring electricity to the computer. It's not an issue, and it's perfectly normal. If it is unplugged however, it should be silent.

Update us how it goes.

Did you hear noise in safe mode as well? How old is your laptop?

Try updating the BIOS

Re: Ideapad y700 hard drive whinning sounds

Just unplug your HD and switch your laptop on. You need to do is disconnect your battery and remove it from the laptop while you are working with it.

One of the slots is usually for the HDD and the other for the RAM. They are usually very simple in case you want to upgrade. So find which slot is for your HDD and carefully study how it is connected to the laptop and disconnect it. If you are unsure of what you are doing, you should be able to find simple instructions either on HMM

.
Obviously after you disconnect your HD, reconnect the battery to test for the noise. If the noise is gone, then it was probably your HD. In that case, put it back on, buy a replacement.

Re: Ideapad y700 hard drive whinning sounds

I have the error om my y700.
It started with the whinning sound. After some time the sounds got worse and eventually the hdd drive started shutting down.

Sometimes it works for an hour or two but most of the time it shuts down right after login or it is not detected at all.

I conntacted service and did everything they told me. After I did a factory reset the drive started working again with no sound or errorlogs for about 2-3 months until today the same thing happend again. Noises then shuts down.

Make sure to get the issue fixed while you still have warranty or renew your warranty while waiting to get it fixed.
