Invalid Serial Number and Machine Type in BIOS and Vantage. Lenovo ideapad Y700-15ISK

I just bought a used Lenovo ideapad Y700-15ISK. After reseting to factory status, I noticed that the lenovo vantage shows my laptop s/n and machine type is " invalid". I did some research online but those solutions are for Thinkpad devices.

I look into bios and sn and machine type is also invalid there.

 

Is there any way to update the serial number in bios so that it could show the correct information?

or is there anyway to manually type in s/n into lenovo vantage so it could scan and give me update information ?

Welcome to the Community Forums.

 

Would this be after a service motherboard replacement? The internal tool to edit it is issued to Lenovo tech doing service, so you can call back the tech or tech support center to inform them for re-service.

Hi  

 

I believe it was serviced before. But since I bought it used, I don't have its service record with me.

Is there anyway for them to re-service it base on the serial number?  They just need to put the serail number back in there... Thank you

Check warranty lookup with your serial number at below site.  If its under warranty you can ask service center to update model number and serial number.

You can manually type in serial number at the below site.  That will give you drivers as the machine was shipped.

Already called Tech support. They won't help.

They said I could go to best buy since BestBuy would have the tool to fix it and Bestbuy is authorized technical repair center.

I rushed to Best Buy and was told they can't do this and don't have the tool at all.

Greetings.

 

I am sure that if the machine is under warranty that they would have issued a ticket for service.

 

I am not sure if changing those information would be worth the cost of an out of warranty service since having a certified tech to edit it using the internal tool would fix it unlike on thinkline products. Modding the BIOS would also risk of bricking the board itself.

 

Try to check back with tech support for options of out of warranty service if you really need it.

I have a similar problem. I replaced the motherboard on my Yoga 920 at a local service center certified by Lenovo. They have not updated the SN and MTM on the new motherboard and somehow they don't even have the required software. I am wondering if there is any workaround to make Lenovo Vantage recognize the laptop and download updates. I would assume that Lenovo Vantage takes SN and MTM not from the motherboard directly but from the windows registry. If this is the case, does anyone know which registry keys should be modified to get Lenovo Vantage updates working?

 

This sounds like a very simple 5 minutes fix, but neither going to the service center that replaced the motherboard or calling to Lenovo technical service could resolve this issue. Lenovo support also suggested me going to Best Buy, where I was told that they don't provide such services. This is extremely annoying, and I really hope that someone may know a workaround.
