Is It Safe? Generic Replacement Touch Screen Assembly (Y700 TOUCH-15ISK)

2017-12-02, 15:10 PM

My Y700's screen was cracked after I accidentally dropped it while it was in my backpack. I'm looking for a replacement for the LCD assembly since the glass is apparently hard to separate from the module. I found the replacement part I need: 5D10K37618 (my laptop model number is 80NW000PUS).

I see multiple different listings on eBay. So far the cheapest is about $130-$140, while others are $200-$300 or more. The massive price difference seems to be due to the fact that some of the cheaper sellers have generic (or 'off-brand) parts while the more expensive sellers have the Lenovo-made ones.

Example of the generic replacement part:

So, I was wondering if it's okay to go with the cheaper replacements. Has anyone had to replace a Lenovo screen before using one a generic part instead of a Lenovo one?
