My laptop has extreme lag when I connect to an external montior. Ive tried two monitors, with no luck and using the same games I run 80fps on, on the laptop monitor I get 20 on the external monitor. I use a kensington usb 3.0 docking station and when I put the monitor directly into that it lags very badly and if I also put the monitor into my laptop it also lags very badly. My computer is plugged in and ive checked the power settings to make sure im on the high performance battery setting so video is optimized. Both monitors are 60hz 1080p.
This is my exact laptop: http://www.microcenter.com/product/479048/legion_y720_156_gaming_laptop_computer_-_black
Help is appreciated, thanks.

This is probably because the external monitor is not utilizing the Discrete GPU.
Which mode are you using to display on the 2nd monitor? (Duplicate/extended etc)
Can you make sure in NVIDIA control panel that the external monitor settings look fine.
Is the external monitor set to a preset resolution?
When you play the game, does it run on both monitors?

I have two externals, running on extended with laptop display off. I opened nvidia panel and it said i am not running a display attached to a nvidia gpu, so I assume its running on discrete? No, game doesnt run on both monitors.

Can you please run MSI Afterburner while playing the game and see how the GPU usage is displayed?
Also, having 2 external monitors connected I am not sure how this is utilizing NVIDIA optimus and maybe that is the issue?
I usually just connect 1 external and it works fine.

Can you please try this with only 1 external monitor?
Also, please specify how are you connecting 2 monitors? (which port/connector)

Connecting directly to the laptop should definitely work without issues and the GPU should switch automatically.
Try a power flee (for 1 monitor setup) -
Shutdown and disconnect power adapter
Press power button for 45 seconds
Connect and start again.
Then connect only 1 monitor (display only on external), run MSI afterburner, run game and test it please.
