Laptop Lenovo Legion Y520-15IKBN SSD Compatibility

2017-05-29, 3:28 AM

Hello everyone! I just bought a Lenovo Legion Y520-15IKBN. I want to know if the following SSD is compatible with my laptop:  SSD ADATA SX7000 256GB PCI Express 3.0 x4 M.2 2280

I've read the forum and I understand that only PCIe SSD ar compatible and not SATA3. But it's still unclear to me if there is a whitelist on SSD from Lenovo. Can anyone help me?

There's an option for both SATA and PCIe for storage in the Y520, so this should work fine.

Could you please elaborate on that ? The thing is I tried a Kingston SSDNow 2280 G2, 240GB, M.2, SATA III that doses not work. So I'm worried about ordering another one and sending the Kingston back.

I've seen some strange things with upgrading the Y520's SSD, with some brand not working and others working, but one hard drive that's confirmed by a few users to work is the Samsung 960 EVO M.2.

Take a look at this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll07_en/thread-id/4995/page/2

The kingston one you ordered was SATA III, that is why it did not fit in a Y520

The ADATA is a PCIe SSD, it *SHOULD* work.
