Laptop screen is black when external hdmi display is NOT connected

Hi,

I just spent last few hours stuck with black screen (very slight black backlight with no observable images right after legion boot logo) on my laptop

Legion 7-16ITHg6 Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 82K6

What I did recently (may be unrelated):

- switched on conservation mode in lenovo vantage

- tried to switching off hybrid mode in lenovo vantage - didn't seem to work

- recent (few days) BIOS update

Tried, but did not help

- increase brightness

- ctrl + shift + win + B

- multiple resets holding power button

The screen worked in:

- safe mode

- when connected to another display - that was active - once only display 1 was selected for projection all went black again

Things I did before the screen started to work again (miraculously):

- reinstalled

-- Intel VGA Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit)

-- all drivers from Motherboard Devices category

- went to bios (F2 after boot) and changed

-- Graphic Device -> Dynamic Graphics

    -- BIOS Backflash -> Enabled

After this I rebooted to windows and screen went back on.

Hope this may help someone to experiment.

The question is, do you have some idea what might go wrong and what might have fixed it?

Re:Laptop screen is black when external hdmi display is NOT connected

Hi

WINKEY +Ctrl + Shift + B ??

By giving the MTM (Machine Type Model) you improve the chances of help
tailored to your exact machine type.

Usually 10 characters – 82H9CTO1WW.

OR try WinKey + R and type msinfo32 (Line 7) System Model 82H9

The SERIAL number MUST be kept PRIVATE, and NOT posted publicly,
this gives specific details about your device. 8 characters AnnDr01d

EG: AS BUILT parts list.

The command, when run as ADMIN,

wmic bios get serialnumber

Produces this Serial-Number AnnDr01d

You may have a label on the rear/underside with these details on.

Hi

If you can include the full 10 character MTM in your next post please.

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht506581-lenovo-diagnostic-solutions-downloads

or more directly try ....

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkvantage_en/ldiag_4.42.0_windows_x64.exe

Running a Diagnostic may reduce the Time/Cost of any remedial work.

Try this, it only works for some people, but you may be lucky … Shutdown PC. Disconnect the AC power and do a Hard Reset. Hold Power Button down for 1 Minute. Wait 1 minute and reconnect AC power. IF you have the resources available, this may be useful.... LENOVO Laptop = OFF SECOND Screen = OFF (Monitor or TV) Add a connection to your TV or a Second monitor via HDMI. With both OFF, turn on the (2ND) HDMI device, NOW try powering on the Laptop. If you are lucky then at least one screen will illuminate. Work from there to resolve any issues, EG: Now try to access the BIOS by … Turn it ON and rapidly press F2 Press the Arrow down key ONCE. Next is the Enter Key. Now press F9. Press the enter key. Finally F10 and Enter. If in doubt please ask.
