So I checked with a few people who have legion machines 2020 and 2021. The battery fn toggle stutter thing doesn't happen at all on their legion 5 (2020) and legion 5 pro (2021) machines. The consensus is that this is definitely down to faulty hardware especially as the fn / mute keys aren't working as intended on top of the stutter issues and the wifi not being stable.

My friend (Legion 5 pro) raised a tickect with the video proof posted here and they approved return/warranty/servicing within the hour. I think they know about this problem internally but aren't publicly acknowledging this to prevent a mass recall as there must be many out there unaware this isn't a software/driver issue.

I returned my non lenovo laptop too which suffers the same problem. I guess if any of you guys still have warranty (1 year) you should consider getting it RMA'd with the videos as proof before it runs out. It's probably a straight out motherboard replacement which you can't easily do yourself.

I might go back to a traditional desktop setup after all this which was what I wanted in the first place before PC components got stupidly expensive last year.

Good luck

Well, it's funny you mention that, I wasn't going to bring this up, but I have had a different response. I still have around 6 months warranty, BUT, I have an email from Lenovo support saying that this WILL NOT be fixed.

The exact quote:

" Unfortunately I have to inform you that this problem can not be fixed in this case, as the device is older than 30 days. We can however offer an in-warranty repair reset. Please do advise how would you like to proceed.

Looking forward to hearing from you "

Now, I'm not sure on the legal implications of that, but I'm pretty sure that breaks the terms of their warranty, no? Not to mention in the next email they said you are required to send your computer as-is and provide your Windows password and security questions. No thank you! I'm not sending it off for 2-3weeks just for them to shove a SIM card tool in the side for a Novo reset. I've done that enough times myself. Absolutely disgraceful!

I also contacted the retailer I purchased it from (Overclockers) because I was willing to pay not to have to deal with Lenovo, the woman I spoke to took details of the issue and said she would send a confirmation email with accurate costs, delivery instructions for shipping/returns etc 2 days later I get an apology email saying they would not be able to take on the repair. No explanation, nothing. That is very strange to me... they have a very good reputation.

So, I don't know? Still no issues thus far, so that's good.

30 days is the right you have to return a faulty item for a refund. If it has a warranty it is to be honoured up until that warranty expires. I took out a 2 year extended premium care. I have had a new keyboard, pad and some other bits posted to me,  Will arrange a home visit Monday once back home. See if that fixes my issue.  If not it will get another fault logged, I am not paying £1300 for a laptop to be fobbed off by anyone.

I think if it's over 6 months the only onus you have is to prove your machine is faulty which would be straight forward. Uploading a video of your machine stuttering should be sufficient. The only thing not covered by warranty these days are laptap batteries.

There is a new optional update for windows 10 that includes a fix for gaming mode and power plans, has anyone tried it?

That was my understanding too, the 30 days is a given, but that email from Lenovo is just over 2 months old now, so I'd had the laptop around 4 months at the time which is why I found it such a bizarre response.

When I asked what the difference was between an actual fix and repair reset, I got a generic off-topic copy paste reply that explained nothing. I pretty much gave up at that point. Then again, the same rep told me that to fix the freezes I should run Disc Cleanup! Somehow, I don't think deleting a few temp files is a solution.

Anyway, thanks for the replies, it is still behaving for now, but maybe I'm having a lucky spell. Also, let's see what that Windows update does on the off chance that helps. Deep down I agree with you all and I do think it is a hardware issue. They need to be recalled.

Hey everyone,

I got my legion 5 pro a few months ago. Same problem. Last month it started with the unpredictable visual and audio stutters a few times each day. I've run latencymon which picks up the usual spikes related to driver kernals and such.

I've done DDU to remove Nvidia drivers and done fresh install. Didn't work.

Now I've done DDU again and am in the process of a clean windows install.

Will let you know how I get on!

Hello there @Joe0908

That's good to hear. If you are trying the offline install then I am very intrigued to see if it works for you. Fingers crossed!

Right, so here it is

Ive done the DDU to remove nvidia drivers. Clean windows install from cloud.

10 mins after setup I tried the vantage test for stutter as in the videos on this thread.

Issue persists

Also had an unpredictable hick-up whilst on YouTube.

This is ridiculous. I sincerely hope it is not a hardware issue and is software-related.

It looks like for most it starts happening after the refund period has expired. Annoying as hell
