Legion 5i RTX 260 boost clock 1900mhz

2020-10-21, 20:25 PM

HI all,

Just a note im not complaining,

I was just curios if anyone else gets clock speeds of their RTX 2060 in the Legion 5i Laptop upto 1900mhz, I rarely get below 1700mhz while gaming and usually its boosting upto 1900mhz. Is this normal? Temp never gets higher than 72 degrees. So very stable gaming experieince.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

That's interesting.

What model do you have?

Could you run GPUZ and let us know what the Device ID and the default and boost clocks are?

Basically, there are various types of RTX2060 and different BIOS versions that allow them to run at various speeds (power limits).

They are commonly 80W, 90W and 115W (but presumably there may be others).

nVidia seemingly released a newer version that can run at the higher power limits in 2020.

See this video for more info - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=971J_bPQCho&t=3s

I'm using a 15imh05h with RTX2060 and when I originally got it, it would boost to around 1650 MHz. I'm 99% sure that it's an 80W BIOS. (Note that in GPUZ, the boost clock given there is much lower than the actual boost you end up with in games - I'm not entirely sure why. I think mine was around 1250MHz or something).

However, because the DeviceID contains "1F15", I know that it's one of the newer RTX2060s that can run at 115W.

It would be interesting to see if yours if 1F15 too and what the GPUZ boost clocks are.

More Info on different 2060 graphics. (Skip to 7.40)

According to this the card you get is (or was) dependant on which model of Legion 5.  This infers that the 5i would only get the 85watt card.

Of course things do change, it’s also possible that every laptop has the same card and that different models have it throttled down to help with heat management on more power hungry chips. I read on Reddit that someone with an 85 watt chip got it running at 115watt by flashing the bios (cannot find the link, and he may also have been lying ofc).

I can confirm that my Legion 5P runs at 115watt.

Hope this helps!

Also I tried Nvidia's new performance monitor in Geforce Experience, and it shows the power draw to be 80w.

It does seem to be one of the 2060's with "1F15" device id, however i get different readings with the power draw on different software, however, it does seem to perform a lot better than other 2060's with the 80w power draw so I'm gonna guess that its the 115w variant.

Thanks for your help.
