Legion 7 15IMHg05 (blackscreen when running on battery power)

2021-01-04, 11:52 AM

Hello,

I just bought an Legion 7i 15IMHg05 (i7, RTX 2070 Super, 16Go and 1To SSD) but I have this problem :

If I start the computer on battery power, I get a black screen right after the Legion logo in BIOS. On the other hand, if I activate hybrid mode the problem disappears. But I don't want to use hybrid mode because it doesn't work in my case (Black Ops Cold War runs on Intel Graphics and not RTX, even though I force the use of RTX for this specific program in the settings) .

All of my drivers are up to date. Can you help me please ? Thanks !

EDIT : If I turn off HDR I also get a black screen

Hello, I have the Legion 7i and having similar issues when running in "discrete graphics" mode set in bios. Narrowed it down to issue with latest Nvidia driver. This could be the same issue you are having. I downloaded the old nvidia driver from the lenovo support page for my model laptop and it resolved issue with laptop screen going blank when trying to wake from sleep mode or when power settings turn of screen. Only way to get screen back on was switching to hybrid graphics in the bios. I have help ticket submitted with Nvidia and urge others to do the same otherwise issue with driver will never get fixed. Let me know if this helps, thx.

Hello, thanks for your message. I also contacted Nvidia to escalate the problem to them. I think it's a shame to buy a new PC and spend hours on it trying to fix a problem. I hope there will be a fix soon, because the driver offered on the Lenovo site is from February 2020. Thanks again for your help !

I just installed the Nvidia driver offered on the Lenovo site, and it works. But, the driver version is from February 2020 .. I tried to install drivers from October and November 2020 but it's rejected.

I would have used hybrid mode if it worked instead of installing a February 2020 driver but this mode just doesn't work for me ! Apex Legends and Black Ops Cold War launch with the Intel GPU.

I haven't experimented beyond the older driver version on the Lenovo site. It is a shame however that the newer version doesn't work correctly. I didn't realize the driver is from February its been almost a year! The more people we have submit tickets to Nvidia the better. The older driver version fixed your issues though with blank screen in discrete graphics mode though right?

Indeed, the older pilot had solved all of my problems described above. But I didn’t keep it because the version of the driver is too old. I look forward to an official response from Lenovo and NVIDIA support.

Ok, for those who have the same problem as me, I found the most recent Nvidia driver that fixes all these problems (which avoids installing the one proposed by Lenovo which dates from February 2020 ..). The latest version with no problem is : 457.09 (10/29/2020).

Nvidia support told me that the problem is driver related and will be fixed in the next update.
