Legion Y520 BIOS settings for PCIe SSD

2017-04-07, 14:13 PM

Hello,
I bought a SSD M.2 PCIe Plextor px-256m8peg (PCIe Gen3 x4) for my Legion Y520-15IKBN Laptop Type80WK. The problem is that when i instal it, it freezes at the Plextor logo - I press the start button, the legion logo starts, then the Plextor logo goes in and thet is it. Also i cannot acces the BIOS. I would like to know what are the BIOS options that i need to change before installing the component in order to make it work and run the sistem from it.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

Take the SSD out from the latop, restart then go to BIOS.

Make this changes there:

- Exit -> Load Default Settings

- Configuration -> SATA Controller Mode -> AHCI

- Boot -> Boot Mode -> UEFI

- Exit -> Exit Saving Change

Shut down the laptop, install the SSD back then it should work.

Head back into BIOS then on the "Information" screen you should see the Plextor SSD there.

I had the same problems, took me few hours to make it work and be able to install Windows on it.

You also need to have the Windows in UEFI mode installed on USB in order to work.

Did you get any stuttering after installing the SSD?

After the install process of Windows, should we load default setting in BIOS?

No, do not reset the BIOS, it won't work again if you do.

Thanks a lot for the fast reply, unfortunately I reset the BIOS before reading your reply and yes, you were right, it wasn't able to boot. Why is that when I bought the laptop the BIOS default setting worked well but now they won't even if I haven't changed the hardware?

Sorry if I'm starting a new post inside of this one I was just trying to make a clean install of Windows 10 without all the Lenovo bloatware and started to have problems trying to install Windows on the M.2 factory installed.

At first I wasn't able to do it because it just gave me the option to install on the HDD but after changing the BIOS option for the SATA controller to AHCI I could perform the clean install. Yet I still don't know why I couldn't use the default BIOS setting again and if this is something to keep in mind for future BIOS updates as it seems like a temporary solution.

Once more, thanks a lot.

It is not a temporary solution, those settings are there for a reason, to be able to change them as needed.

The M.2 port SSD needs AHCI.
