Legion Y520 and Y720 BIOS update links

I found many threads where people are looking for older BIOS images for the gaming notebooks. Maybe they are not fully satisfied with the newest version of the BIOS, or have run into issues with the latest version. For this reason I decided to include links to some of the previous versions for the BIOS update files on Lenovo's servers.

I also include a link to the readme file for the update.

Since these look like legit links, can we please sticky this post or have it readily available somehow.

In case someone is looking at this thread and wants some help with downgrading the BIOS from a later version, here is a handy little infographic. Click to open and then download for full size.

Re: Legion Y520 and Y720 BIOS update links

Hey Lenar,
I just wonder if this latest BIOS update for the Y720 can also cause problems with trying to get into the Lenovo apps: Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo Settings. Just today I had problems with getting into these apps even with the 35ww being on my laptop for awhile. I was able to get into these apps previously.

I did download the later version earlier, but the issues with the two apps were still happening.

Re: Legion Y520 and Y720 BIOS update links

I may check this out. I'm thinking I could deinstall the latest version 36WW, which is on my machine, as well as 34WW and 35WW.

Re: Legion Y520 and Y720 BIOS update links

Hi Blondie25,

Unfortunately I have no access to the Y720 and no info on how the BIOS versions work out on it. You should search this board, because the topic has been discussed before. Or just start your own thread about it.

Re: Legion Y520 and Y720 BIOS update links

I'm looking for instructions to downgrade to 40 since Windows won't load after upgrading to 44. The instructions accompanying these EXE files say to run them from Windows, so what do you do when Windows won't load?

Re: Legion Y520 and Y720 BIOS update links

Do you still see the boot logo? Can you enter the BIOS?

If all you see is a black screen when pressing the power button, maybe try to disconnect the CMOS battery for 1 minute and then reconnect it?

I am not aware of any instructions on how to downgrade if Windows does not load. There are no separate bootable images for Legion machines, you need Windows to run the BIOS updater. If you are unable to make it boot, you will need to contact Lenovo Support to help you out.

Re: Legion Y520 and Y720 BIOS update links

I can get to the UEFI as well as all of the Windows troubleshooting options. I have tried the "Setup Defaults" option (F9) to reset the UEFI which seems to make 44 work for some people. I have tried the startup repair and everything else in the troubleshooting options with no success. When I try to load Windows normally, I get a blue screen with a CRITICAL PROCESS DIED stop code.

Since my machine is just over a year old and therefore out of warranty, I called Costco who provides a second year of support. They want me to do a complete factory reset which I'd like to avoid if possible.
