Legion Y530 81FV RAM Upgrade

2021-09-17, 15:44 PM

Hello! I would like to ask if there is any specific brand or model of RAM I have to use when I upgrade my device. Or does it only need to have the same frequency (2666 MHz)? Thank you!

Welcome to the community forum.

According to Lenovo_Legion_Y530_15ICH_Spec.pdf you need 2666MHz DDR4 RAM. Actually you can install faster RAM, e.g. 3200MHz. It just won't run any faster.

There is no requirement to use a specific brand however name brands are generally more likely to be compatible. Crucial for example even guarantees it.

It depends on whether you are adding to that already installed or replacing what is there with new.

Your model is  DDR4 2666 Mhz SODIMM, to confirm make & model install CPU-Z

https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

and when you run it open tab SPD for the details of the ram modules you are running.

If you have 2 ram slots, then it is best to use 2 modules that are matched exactly, this way it will work as dual channel (process faster)

2 x 4 will work faster than 1 x 8 & 2 x 8 will work faster than 1 x 16 and so on.

LEGION-5-15ACH6H, 82JU002YUK, Ryzen 7 5800H + Geforce RTX 3070 16Gb Hyper X, WD Black NVMe, FHD 165Hz, BIOS 44ww.

In theory yes. But in practice, the difference in overall system performance between single-channel and dual-channel operation isn't huge.
