Legion Y720 and eGPU

Hi

I have a Legion Y720 laptop fra Q4 2017

it’s the one with an i7-7700HQ, 16gb ram and GTX 1060 6gb.

I want to use an eGPU to the TB3 port. But i need to know af few things.

Is the PciLanes 4 Lane or 2 Lane? And doe’s the lane connect directly to the CPU or the motherboard chipset?

it seems to make a lot of difference when using a eGPU.

Thanks

Re: Legion Y720 and eGPU

It is 4 lane, and the chipset/cpu I dont know what are you asking,  runing eGpu with external display si the best.

The problem with eGpu is that you lose around 30% performance, so a 1070 will have the results of a 1060 or better.

Re: Legion Y720 and eGPU

I ask if the TB3 controller is attached to the CPU or PCH.

I’ve read it makes a difference.Smiley Indifferent

Re: Legion Y720 and eGPU

I found out using HWiNFO64 software which is a kind of an expanded desktop manager, that the Legion Y720 laptop use PCH for TB3 controller and not CPU controlled TB3, sadly.

That the performance difference is precise i don’t know but i guess 5-10fps.
