Legion Y730 15 4-cell compatibility

Hello, Lenovo, I really like my laptop, but the battery capacity is not enough.

I assume that the 15 inch and 17 inch versions have the same motherboards.

Is it possible to install a 4 cell battery in a 15 inch laptop, and will it require any modifications?

I can only leave ssd.

Thanks.

Re: Legion Y730 15 4-cell compatibility

Hi CosX112,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Checking parts lookup for compatible OEM provided boards do not match:

15 inch (PN 5B20S56957, 5B20S56985, 5B20S56951, 5B20S56974)

17 inch (PN 5B20S57349, 5B20S57352, 5B20S57335, 5B20S57378).

Checking further on the battery form from both is also different so fitting would also be an issue and most specifically the BIOS recognition that seems to be the biggest challenge.

I am not optimistic that a 4cell from the 17inch would work with the 3cell of the 15inch. Maybe get another alternative like powerbank.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Re: Legion Y730 15 4-cell compatibility

Motherboards differ slightly. Only the location of the connector ssd. and on the printed circuit board it is possible to put the connector in any way.

On a 15 inch model, just remove the hard drive, and the 4-cell battery fits perfectly.csm_MG_3101_72f2b4283d (1).jpg17 inch

Even the connector on the battery is no different.

Re: Legion Y730 15 4-cell compatibility

Hi CosX112,

Greetings.

With the cited challenges noted previously (fitting and BIOS), if you feel that you can then it maybe it's a risk for you to try but definitely not OEM recommended.

Regards

Hi, how is your laptop? Do you already replace the battery to 4 cell? Thank you.
