Legion Y730 GPU and docking

Hi

I plan to buy a Y730 for use as a laptop and work station plugged to 3 external displays (laptop closed)

1. Is it suitable for this use ? I will not play the latest games on it, only work with photoshop sometimes.

2. Is the GPU a max-Q design ?

3. Is there a plan of GPU upgrade soon ?

4. As there is a thunderbolt 3 port, which docking solution would allow me to plug my 3 external display and maybe power supply to the laptop ?

Thank you everyone Smiley Happy

Re: Legion Y730 GPU and docking

1. Depends on your preference on weight and battery life

2. Nope, in fact the cooling can handle a full blown 1060. However there is no such option now

3. No idea, should be possible like Y530

4. Not sure on the external display thing. but surely it cannot be charged via USB C (no such implementation especially in gaming laptops - too much power)

I own a Legion Y530.

Re: Legion Y730 GPU and docking

I tried the "thunderbolt 3 dock 135W" and I can confirm that :
- it does not provide power supply to laptop via USB C
- laptop cannot be powered on with the dock button

Re: Legion Y730 GPU and docking

Just received my new Legion Y730. I am also planning on using it a lot for basic office type work. Is there a docking station that will simplify connecting multiple screens, speakers, ext keyboard, etc?

Re: Legion Y730 GPU and docking

The "thunderbolt 3 dock 135W" is suitable for this usage.
I use it with 3 monitors, USB keyboard + mouse, and it has an audio plug.
You just have to plug power supply and thunderbolt 3 cable for use all your office tools.

I also suggest you this king of support, it's great :
