Legion Y730 constantly dropping Wifi connection

2019-09-12, 4:41 AM

My Legion Y730 laptop is constantly either dropping my Wifi connection all together, or remaining connected and saying there is no Internet access for the connection.  This has been happening increasingly often in recent days and it's ruining my gaming experience.  My laptop is the only machine in my house having this issue.  My phone, Xbox, work laptop, and all my wife's devices have no issues with the Wifi.

I have seen others on the forum posting about how unstable their Realtek wifi card is.  My laptop has a Realtek 8822BE Wifi card.  I tried doing an automatic update of the drivers, but it said they were already up to date.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?  I know many people have said to replace the Realtek wifi card with an Intel wifi card.

Hello, the Realtek 8822BE is one big pain in the a** .

I had one in my Y530 and i have to chage it. Be sure you get one that have same connections to motherboard.

Unfortunately is the only solution ...

I removed the Realtek wifi card and replaced it with an Intel 9260.  I haven't had a single drop since replacing the card.

For anyone still having dropped connections with the  Realtek Card, I originally went back to the Lenovo 6-2018 driver which seemed to be more stable than the driver currently available for y730 users. I'm a bit angry with the lack of driver updates since April 2019 from Lenovo, I decided to experiment and install the latest driver for my WLAN from the Microsoft Update Catalog. The Microsoft driver is Windows 1903 compatable and dated 9-2019. Suprisingly the system recognized the driver, installed it, and I haven't had an issue in the two weeks since I've installed it.

I wish Lenovo would commit itself to updating it's drivers a bit more frequenlty. I got my system in late December 2019, and there haven't bee any real updates since April. I feel a bit abandoned after purchasing my y730. Even the 1 year old Dell I'm using at work still gets a plethora of driver updates on a weekly basis.

Hi, Jerry -

I've been using driver 2024.0.8.108 for 2 days now. I put it through some vigirous testing by streaming games, downloading and installing games from steam, and watching youtube videos on multiple browser tabs. I can honestly say that my WLAN has not disconnected at any point during that time as it did with the previous y730 lenovo driver. Going to test it out some more. I hope this driver solves our WLAN issues.

Off topic, but maybe we can explore the Realtek Audio driver next? It makes my external microphone too low to use with Slack and Skype. The work around I found for that issue was to install the latest realtek audio driver for the y530 Legion.

Thanks

Have you installed Windows update KB4554364 ? If yes, uninstall and block.

This laptop is the biggest headache. Issues left and right. Having this same Wifi issue after sending it in because no Graphics card was installed and it’s a gaming laptop. I’m so over Lenovo and their $1000 headache.
