Legion y7000 low on storage

2020-05-27, 18:30 PM

I'm confused about why my laptop has such little storage. It says it has 16gb (15.9gb available) but it has less room than my last 8gb laptop. I have 8 games installed and it's already out of room, my last laptop I had 40 installed with no problem.

That totally depends on which model you purchased, because some models could be ordered with only a 256GB or 512GB M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe SSD, while other models could be ordered with either a a 256GB or 512GB SSD and a 1TB HDD.

If you have a model that shipped with only a SSD, you would probably need a kit (Lenovo Part# 5B40R40179) like the one below to add a second 2.5" SATA SSD/HDD to your system to increase storage by a few TB.     Even if you do not plan on adding a second dive right now, I would recommend picking up the bracket and cable now anyway, because they could be harder to find as your model gets older.

It could also be that you have two drives already, but you are installing your games on the smaller SSD where the Windows OS resides instead of the larger data drive.

When you open ThisPC or File Explore it should show you the drives under Devices and Drives, but you can also right-click start and select Disk Management to view the drives as well.

Cheers,
