Lenovo L340 How to access BIOS rather than UEFI

2020-02-12, 4:16 AM

Title says it all. I'm currently trying to change the amount of shared memory that goes to the gpu. However, I can't change this through the UEFI Setup Utitlity. I access this through hold shift on the sign in menu and restarting. Thank you, in advance.

Assuming you have the Intel integrated GPU:

The shared memory used as video memory by the Intel GPU is assigned dynamically and can go up to half of available system memory.

Since DDR4 is still slower than even GDDR5, assigning more will not improve performance.

If your laptop is using 1 stick of RAM, or it's slower than what your CPU is capable of running, you could improve performance by changing it.

If you have dedicated Nvidia GPU there's no point in adjusting the amount of shared memory. Everything that would go over the dedicated memory would be extremely slow due to the poor performance of DDR4 as video memory.

I have a GTX 1650 and I am not trying to up the amount. I am trying to lower the amount from 4 to 1, maybe 2.

All memory that is not in use by the iGPU will be available to your PC.

I'm going to make another assumption and guess that you're looking at the Shared GPU memory in the Task Manager? If I'm correct, you don't have to worry about that at all. The total shared memory is how much the iGPU can use, but it's not statically assigned to the iGPU.
