Lenovo Legion 5i- Battery Drain

2020-08-13, 10:17 AM

I got my Legion 5i 3 weeks ago. When I took it out of the box the battery was at o%, it wouldn't even turn on (seemed weird but I didn't mind it at the time),

I tested the computer for a few days to check that everything was working fine and didn't touch ir for exactly two weeks. When I turn it on again, 0% battery again (I had put away the machine with 60% of battery charge (the battery conservation option was checked)).

After that I've been doing some more test now that I have the time. The computer looses 2% of battery life every day that it's turned off (completely off, with fast boot turned off too). Also the battery life when charged at 100% is 1 hour 20 minutes (with light use, some youtube videos, a few tabs en chrome, intel graphics and no keyboard backlight).

Has anyone experienced anything similar to this? According to Lenoco Vantage and Hw Info, the battery is healthy and has only 3 cicles...

Thanks in advance!

Run a Windows 10 Battery Report and see what the charge capacity says:

Everything looks fine, I've even have a bigger full charge than the design capacity. Lenovo vantage says the same, it would seem that it's not a problem of a battery with a problem, but rather a drainage.

Almost a month since I contacted lenovo, and still no news...

Seems like your battery is fine.

Likely, when you think you are turning the laptop off, it is really in sleep mode - which still uses battery.

Try shutting it down (from power menu at the Start button) and then see if the battery is the same next time.

The default behavior of the power button press is to go to sleep.  You can change that within Windows to properly shutdown or hibernate, if you wish.

I alway shut down the computer from the power menu, the computer is not sleeping, it's properly turned off, I'm sure. And also, that wouldn't explain how can it last just 1 hour with light web browsing.

Do you have usb devices plugged in while it is off? If so, they could be draining the battery unless you disable usb always on.

Given that your battery capacity shows correct, I doubt it is a battery issue. Something is draining it faster. Could be a USB device or the laptop is using more power than it should, even at light load.

Nothing plugged in and always on usbs turned off from the moment I got the laptop. The weirdest part is that the computer came with 0 battery, I opened the sealed box and it didn't turn on, so the problem came from the start, that's why I think is hardware related.

It could be.  Now that (I assume) you have done a few more charge cycles, run the battery report again and see if the cycle count has gone up and/or if the capacity number has changed.

The guy in the post below has a remarkably similar story to yours and found a fix you should try:

TL;DR - uninstall (don't just disable) the iCue software (that manages the RGB lights) and see if the rapid battery drain goes back to normal.
