I have this freezing issue that only occurs when im browsing the internet or file explorer and never had this issue while gaming. Basically the laptop becomes completely unresponsive and i can't even move the cursor. However closing the lid fixes the issue as i close the lid for a few seconds and after my laptop goes to sleep i reopen the lid and login and it works fine again. What could be the issue here? Please help me. Thank you.

Well, Lenovo Companion recommended me a critical driver update for my Hard drive. But i couldn't find any driver updates for my CPU. Didn't face that issue once since i installed that hdd update. I hope it has been fixed. Wish me luck and thanks for your help.

It's been a few months, did your problem ever resurface? If not, that's great that the HDD driver did the trick for you.
I've been having the same issue with my Y720 for quite some time, but it seemingly gets worse. I had contacted Lenovo about it and they recommended sending the unit in for repair - BUT, I upgraded my SSD and the rep I was speaking to gave me a hard time about that.
What I usually did to reset the freezes was either plug in the AC adapter (if I was on battery) OR if I was on AC adapter, just unplug it for a second and plug it back in, which is a lot faster than waiting for the system to go into sleep mode. When I'm working heavily with the system, like doing video editing or things of the such, the system locks up every few minutes, sometimes multiple times per minute. During regular usage, it doesn't happen as often - although I found that it does it more often after the system had been put to sleep a few times. It doesn't seem to do it after a fresh reboot for quite a while, but if I had put it to sleep shortly after a fresh reboot and started using it after waking it up, it would start doing it more frequently.

I figured out it was just Chrome causing this issue and when Chrome is open i face this hang issue randomly. My laptop works just fine if i don't use Chrome. I contacted microsoft as it started happening after their April update and they guided me with a few fixes and currently i created a new user profile for Chrome. Hopefully all goes well. I don't want to reset the entire PC just because of Chrome.

I've got this issue - in games too so not the Chrome causes that.
I've had motherboard replaced but it seems like the laptop is still not working correctly.
Not the HDD as I have SSD.

I think I found the issue. I updated all the apps from the Microsoft store and my laptop has not had this freezing issue since then. Maybe some MS app was conflicting with Windows and causing the issue and MS was blaming some programs that I installed. Good old MS. Never accepts their mistakes.
