Lenovo Legion Y520 Keyboard

2017-04-05, 9:16 AM

Hello, I'm having trouble with my laptop's keyboard. Sometimes, after starting, or randomly during the day, some of the keys on my keyboard stop working ("e", "g", "h", fn key, numpad 8 and 9). I cannot figure out why this is happening, if it's a hardware or software problem. My drivers are up to date. When trying a USB keyboard, it works fine.

Hi there, RByrtus -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

You can start by flushing out all static, remove AC adaptor and hold down power button for about 20 seconds.

Update us how it goes.

Absolutely the same problem and it fixes by pressing random keys. Next time I will try to remove the AC and hold the power button.

I tried removing the AC adaptor and holding the power button for a while, nothing changed.

Ahoj ,

So to confirm,

You tried using an external keyboard (USB Connected) and it worked fine?

I would suggest to use the system and wait for issue, once you see keys are not working please try plugging in the USB keyboard and see if they work.

Also, it might be good to pull up the on-screen keyboard to see if virtually you can type using those keys.

As a last resort, backup your data and do a system restore using the Lenovo restore button on the side of the unit. This will default machine to factory values.

Dakujem za pozornost',

It's not a software problem. When the issue is present, the keyboard doesn't work at all(safe mode, system restore or anywhere else), but the onscreen one does. I've even installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 Pro (was with Enterprise before that), but nothing helps. It's strange how the same keys are the problem in all such cases (I too can't use e,g,h,fn,8 and 9). Lenovo should replace all faulty laptops, as it appears that is a manufacturing defect.

I'm having the same issue! Periodically (especially after bootup), my e g h and fn keys just stop working. I'm not sure what triggers them to start working again, but nothing I've done so far has been able to prevent it from happening. Would appreciate a reply or fix if anyone has one, because this seems to be endemic to Legion Y520 laptops.

The problem became more often, sometimes afte startup the keys would work, but now after every startup the keys don't work. I'm using an external keyboard all the time. The on-screen keyboard is fine. I haven't done a system restore yet, because I don't have the time, although I suspect it's more of a hardware issue since other people here are having the exact same problem.

Definetely a hardware issue. Now it's even worse, the keys stop working even after first time work. Any other suggestions beside the power button?
