Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 Keyboard

ManakP, thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately this did not work in my situation, so I will just send it in to have it repaired under warranty in about a month when I can miss it. All I can do until then is press within the marked area every time I move the laptop.

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 Keyboard

Are they the exact same keys becoming unresponsive for you too? E, G, H, Fn ..etc? You might have a different problem here. Anyway good luck, perhaps you won't have to wait for too long.

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 Keyboard

The keys are indeed exactly the same as in your case and they are always the same keys. Fortunately on most occasions after pressing the marked area the keyboard remains fully functional until I shut it off and carry it around. It's just very inconvenient at times and not something that should happen to a €1100 laptop. I will post an update after the keyboard has been repaired.

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 Keyboard

That's strange. Looks like they have a serious technical problem with their keyboard. I just disconnect the ribbon cable and put a piece of insulation underneath and connected it back, it's worked ever since. Wondering what it could be that causes this in your case. Good luck and let us know, try to find out what the origin of the issue is so that all of us have the answer for this since Lenovo itself doesn't care to give us one. Thanks

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 Keyboard

I just wanted to chime in and say that my Y520 bought about a month ago is also experiencing this issue with the exact same keys. I have checked that the metal sheet covering the RAM slots is correctly seated, but I will open again to check under the ribbon cable. Hopefully I can fix it myself. I use it for work, and can't have a service center take 1-2 weeks to fix it.

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 Keyboard

So, almost 4 weeks ago I had the laptop sent in for repair, which would usually take around 2 weeks. Today I received an e-mail from the service desk saying the reasonable term for repair has passed and they will offer me a new product or cash back. Apparently it's also possible for me to view the status of my repair on the Lenovo website:

2017-5-30 09:18:09A service ticket has been created on your behalf on 2017-05-30. The ticket number for your current service incident is 7025400285

2017-5-31 06:15:52Your machine has been collected on 2017-05-31 and is now in transit to Lenovo Service Center

2017-5-31 06:18:05Your machine arrived at Lenovo Service Center on 2017-05-31

2017-6-2 08:18:05Machine issue has been identified as failing component(s) after performing problem determination. Despite our best efforts to maintain inventory of all repair components, the service parts needed to repair your machine are currently unavailable. We are working diligently to complete the repair in a timely manner and will do everything possible to provide current status updates as additional information becomes available.

I find it unacceptable for spare parts not to be in stock for almost 3 weeks.

Currently thinking of what to do: wait for my own laptop to be repaired, get a new device, or go for a different brand...

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 Keyboard

I have the same problem with the keys..

I tried the sollutions provided earlier (metal shiel placement and ribbon cable isolation, but no luck.

Are there other things I can try before sending it back?

Apparently the store canceled the purchase agreement as soon as the reasonable service term had passed, so the choice was between a new device or a full cash refund. Opted for the refund since my own location did not have anything interesting for €1100 and I was not prepared to lay in an additional €100-200 to get similar hardware.

It was a shame though, since I really liked the look and feel of the laptop. Found the same model, only carrying 16GB RAM instead of 8GB, for the same price at a different location last Thursday: lucky me! Decided to give it one more try. No keyboard trouble yet.
