Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 - SSD

To elaborate further, the unit can hold one M.2 SSD and one 2.5" drive (not sure of the maximum drive height). My Samsung drive is an NVMe, so the M.2 should support all M.2 drives, but I haven't had a chance to pop the bottom off yet to look at the notches.

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 - SSD

I was wondering if anyone could confirm if the Corsair Force MP500 Series M.2 SSD 120GB Internal Drive (CSSD-F120GBMP500) works for the Lemovo Legion Y520. Or should I just try to gather up some money amd buy the Samsung 960 EVO Series - 250GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD.

Thank You In Advance.

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 - SSD

I want to buy a Legion y 520 core i5 version laptop but I have a question that does core i5 model have extra slot to add SSD or extra hard drive???

If yes please provide me the product number to select the appropriate product before I buy.

Thanks.

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 - SSD

Hello!

I just purchased a copy of this machine and an SSD, and I can't see the SSD even in the BIOS, with all the aforementioned settings. The drive is of course placed in correctly.
All I want is someone who can clearly tell me whether it "should" work and maybe my SSD is faulty; or the other way around.
My setup:
Lenovo y520-15ikbn 80wk009ahv
+
Lenovo thinkpad 256gb m.2 opal2.0 ssd (4xb0g54146)

Thanks for the help!

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 - SSD

So you managed to get "Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD MZ-N5E250BW (M.2 SATA)" worked with your Legion? So it means Legion y520 support both "Samsung 960 EVO Series - 250GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD (MZ-V6E250BW) & Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD MZ-N5E250BW (M.2 SATA)" Could you please share us how you actually made "M.2 SATA SSD" worked since the laptop featured NVMe port?

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 - SSD

#SOLVED!

I recently bought a Lenovo Legion Y520-15IKBN with i7-7700HQ-8GB-1TB-1050Ti. Since this Model supports another Storage Option(M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD), my plan is to add 256GB NVMe PCIe SSD so that i can use this 256GB SSD to run Windows 10 Pro x64 on it and have the 1TB formated for File storage.

First i did some research online about M.2 Regular SSD and M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. I learned that M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD is faster than Regular M.2 SSD. So bought a Samsung SM951 256GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD but didn’t work. Lenovo Y520 failed to detect the SSD. Checked BIOS, Device Manager, My Computer, and Disk Management Result: Y520 failed to detect the SSD.

Thinking that it's defective returned the product then bought a WD Black 256GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. After installing Lenovo Y520 failed once again to detect the SSD. Again checked BIOS, Device Manager, My Computer, and Disk Management Result: Y520 failed again to detect the SSD.

At first thought of returning the product and buy the one directly from Lenovo but before doing that I wanted to do some troubleshooting. So i went ahead and spent about 2hours to fix it. Did the following luckily it fixed everything and the Y520 Successfully recognized the 256GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD.

Please use the below given Steps and BIOS Settings to Fix the Problem:

Step 1: Restore BIOS to its Factory Settings

Step 2: "Enable" - "Secure Boot" Option under "Security"

Change "Boot Mode" to "UEFI" under "Boot"

Change "SATA Controller Mode" from "RAID" to "AHCI"

             Save and Exit

Step 3: Update the BIOS to its Latest version

Step 4: Now check the BIOS, Device Manager, and Disk Management you will see your installed NVMe PCIe SSD

!!SUCCESS!! Lenovo Legion Y520 Recognized M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD

CONCLUSION: Based on my experience with Lenovo Legion Y520 it looks like All M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD should work if we have the correct BIOS settings.

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 - SSD

Can you upgrade the BIOS from the BIOS itself? Or you need to download latest BIOS file to an usb storage and then load it.
