Lenovo Legion Y520 - upgrade RAM upgrade with different CAS Latency

2020-02-03, 17:58 PM

Hello guys!

I own a Y520 with i5, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD and GTX 1050Ti.

I want to upgrade memory but inside my laptop it's a Samsung 8gb CL 17 memory and I want to buy a HyperX impact 8gb but with CL14.

Is this a problem?Does different CL cause problems?

Hi GeorgeJitariu,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Short answer is no. It does not affect the machine.

Using RAM sticks with different CAS Latency will result in the machine using the Lowest latency in this case  CL14.

Hope this helps,
Jack_Lenovo1

Hi GeorgeJitariu,

The recommended frequency is DDR4 2400MHz as confirmed by PSREF.
