Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 upgrades?

Hi Muppett,

The Y520 uses standard SO-DIMMS for memory, 2.5" SATA drive and m.2 SSD for storage.

All of them can be upgraded or replaced, but none of them are considered customer replaceable due to construction of the device.

Please refer to the hardware maintenance manual linked below.

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 upgrades?

Y520 specs:

http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/Lenovo%20Laptops/Lenovo%20Legion%20Y520%20(15_)/Lenovo_Legio...

(1) You have 2 memory sockets, which can hold 2 16GB sticks.

(2) HDD spinner slot

(3) PCI/E M.2 2280 slot.  Check parts list in HMM for OEM FRU.

Machine videos: Locate your Y520 in list.

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/HT505031

Note: no M.2 2280 video, but install is shown in HMM.

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 upgrades?

If it's out of warranty you can do it yourself if you follow the hardware maintenance manual.

If you don't trust your skills you could contact any PC tech and they should help you.

However, if it's still on warranty you'd better go via Lenovo.

Re: Lenovo Legion Y520 upgrades?

No problem at all.

Out of curiosity- what is your current configuration?

Unless you don't have an m.2 SSD I wouldn't recommend going through the hassle of having it upgraded.
