Re: Lenovo Legion Y530 Battery Issue

2019-12-30, 12:49 PM

Lenovo is not trying to help or gather more information regarding this problem. I chatted with them and their response is "you are not covered by International Warranty (another form of DRM...) so you will have to pay"!

Perhaps this information will be useful for someone.

Here is link with instructions how to generate Battery Report. There you can find Manufacturer, firmware version, Battery Usage pattern etc.

https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/yogac930_bat_cpt_smp_manufacture_detect_201812.pptx

I found this link here:
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds505955

Thanks to this report I know that my battery stopped responding on December 27th.
Previously mentioned firmware update is for lower capacity battery, so it doesn't work for me at all.

My laptop info:
LEGION
SYSTEM PRODUCT NAME: LENOVO 81FV
BIOS: 8JCN53WW 10/12/2019

Battery:
NAME: L17L3PG1
MANUFACTURER: LGC
SERIAL NUMBER: 771
CHEMISTRY: LiP
DESIGN CAPACITY: 52 500 mWh
FULL CHARGE CAPACITY 49 650 mWh

You can find Battery firmware version in Lenovo Vantage
Battery firmware: 0001044E01013008

I'm having the same issue as well. Bougth it from Amazon ES 6 months ago and am from Argentina. Warranty will be complicated and now have a laptop that only works plugged in (for now).

The trick witht the update posted on page 16 is not working for me. Tried like 40s times cannot pass the 0.

Wasn't expected this from a company like Lenovo really.

Hi all.

Ive been following this post since December. And no solution to the problem. It saddens me deeply that Lenovo can not come up with a solution to the problem. Vantage automaticly updated my firmware when i lauched it and since then i have a SMALL FORMFACTOR DESKTOP PC OR FOLDABLE ALL IN ONE.

Please Lenovo, just give us some answers. Herewith screen shots and battery report. Same battery and same firmware with the same problem. Tonight i even rolled back my bios to see if it would help.

Re:Lenovo Legion Y530 Battery Issue

2020-04-13, 14:59 PM

I cant believe that this forum was started back in September and there's no proper solution/patch by Lenovo. I just ran into this issue about 3 days ago what's weird is that I never have updated any battery firmware since I got the laptop and the only update I have done is the BIOS about a week ago but I wonder if that is  implemented in there now. Ive already done a fresh install of windows and have had no luck as well as unplugging the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds and nothing as well as downgrading my BIOS to an older version that I found someone post in another forum. When my computer is plugged in it works just fine to browse internet and use it for very basic use but as soon as I start using anything more demanding like Adobe programs or run a game the laptop kills itself, one thing I did notice is that when I did a fresh install of windows I ran games before I updated the GPU drivers and the games ran just fine without my computer turning off. After updating to the latest driver it started turning off again.

My laptop is out of warranty, but I contacted geek squad via chat and I'm still covered with them and they are asking for me to send my laptop. Due to the current COVID-19 situation I have a feeling this might take 3-4 weeks. I really wanted to just buy a battery online to see if that would fix it but knowing that may not be the only issue worries me from doing so and also it might take the same amount of time for me to receive the battery to begin with.

Re:Lenovo Legion Y530 Battery Issue

Happened to me a couple of days earlier. Battery is stuck at 89% and although I'm still under warranty, it will take 3-4 weeks to repair. Lenovo, I paid 1000€ for this laptop and now I can't use it's main purpose. Portability. Can someone finally answer with a solution?

Edit: My laptop is Y7000p but as far as I know the batteries are the same.

The same problem hapenend to me, the battery is stucked on 89% percent an is no working without power supply.

I dont want to send for 3-4 weeks to repair.

Lenovo stuff removed the posibility to firmware update on battery, that the other users succed to resolve this problem.

Thank you Lenovo that you disabled the option to repair the mistake you created.

Now we must to wait for an update, or what? to buy another battery???

I allready adviced one friend of mine to stay away from Lenovo because more and more their laptops are with problems. And I had before 2 Thinkpads.

On every ocasion I will advice to avoid this model.

Sorry Lenovo, but from september untill now you didn't try to solve the mistake that you created. On second hand sales there are plenty of y530 and y540 series on sales. Why?

I've been trying to deal with this like a lot of you too. I tried to do what is posted in Page 16, but the link is not working anymore (at least not for me).

Is it possible that someone could tell me where I can get that file? Or send it to me?

I would really appreciate it!

Thank you all!

So, I found the file on another site, but when I run it following the  instructions, it says that my device is not configured for battery firmware update. This is the error everyone talks about? If that's not the case, has somebody any idea of how I could manage to run the  firmware updater? Thank you all!

I finally managed to make the updater run, but it always throws the error that says that the update could not be completed due to an internal error. Is this the error everyone talks about? I've tried like 50 times, but I still cannot pass over this error.
