Re:Lenovo Legion Y530 Battery Issue

2021-02-25, 1:37 AM

This is entirely ridiculous. I had my battery replaced soon after buying the y530, because it'd randomly drop to 0, got a new one and it's just gone to **bleep**. Switched off to 0%, Vantage says it's in good conditions and charging, but it doesn't hold a charge. Everything seems to indicate it could hold a charge, HW Monitor sees no issue with the battery capacity either... it's just not charging. Tried the Russian method and it doesn't work for folks with the 1060 model (larger battery, different drivers) and the hotswapping method didn't work either.

Everyone with stuck battery and who can only turn on with AC plugged in.

1. Turn off your laptop.

2. Unplug AC adaptor.

3. Manually disconnect battery connector from the motherboard. (See youtube for disassembly info)

4. Plug in AC adaptor.

5. Turn on laptop.

6. Once system is booted, reconnect battery to the motherboard.

And that's it, battery is now working normally.

3.1 Install a hardware switch so you don't have to disassemble every time.

This way you will also have a good time explaining to airport security

Thank you Lenovo

Re:Lenovo Legion Y530 Battery Issue

Almost 2 years later, and Lenovo still doesn't give a sh*t about it's customers and their devices. This is the reason I've got rid of my lenovo laptop and will never buy any lenovo product again. Y530 is in planned obsolescence anyway, didn't receive a driver/firmware update in years now... This model had very serious functionality problems and most of them are still not fixed after 2 years since they were introduced.

So, good luck with your lenovo products guys, this account will be closed soon since is not relevant anymore.

Best regards.

Did you remove the battery completely, screws and all, or just the connector? I've tried that and it didn't work... Once you plugged the battery back in should it immediately show up or only upon restarting? Also, did you uninstall the drivers at any point?

Thanks for the help!

It didn't work for me neither. I uninstalled the battery drivers from the device manager, prior to turn off the laptop and unplug the battery. Then I followed the  instrutions, but it ddn't work.

Re:Lenovo Legion Y530 Battery Issue

My battery was stuck on 96% for around 3 weeks now (literally right after warranty expired) and y530 would only power on with AC-power, today it randomly started charging normally again. Wish i had some answers to why that is...i guess don't lose hope?

Re:Lenovo Legion Y530 Battery Issue

2021-03-19, 21:48 PM

I have had now three times battery issues with my Y530. I just managed to get it to work again a month ago and yesterday let my computer update the bios and ones again battery is dead. This is the most awfull design I have ever seen and Lenovo is doing nothing. There must be thousend of laptops with battery issues and of course if would cost a lot of money to fix all of them but you Lenovo also loose a lot of customers when delivere such a bad crap.

I have tried all the fixes proposed and nothing works but hot swapping the battery. Disconnect it and when you run your laptop with AC power connect your battery again. Tomorrow I have to try this again and hopefully it works.

I really hate this and would buy an other laptop and brand if I could. These issues with Lenovo (WiFi and Battery) has cost me (lost working hours) much more than the laptop itself. I bought also an extended warranty with onsite support but find out that it was fake promise. I paid for nothing as I still should take the laptop to the repair center and wait many weeks to get it back. Who can afford that? Maybe I could get my money back if I would get any reply to my request.

After a month, month and a half of a dead battery... it suddenly came back to life. Providence taketh and it giveth back, I suppose. Didn't do anything special, just turned it on one day and it was working again. Can't rely on the battery at all, of course -- it could die again at any moment.
