Re: Lenovo Legion Y530 Battery Issue

2019-09-06, 21:24 PM

Thank you Andy. An official answer regarding to the problem keeps us (at least me) calm. Now we officialy know that Lenovo is working on a fix and they took precautions to avoid effecting other customers by taking firmware off the site. Well done! Let's hope the fix won't delay too long for the people who already tried to install the firmware. Please keep us posted because I believe there are lots of people who cannot afford to send it to warranty tech service due to its long procedure time (20-30 days in Portugal).

Yeah, I'd like to say thank you as well. It's good that Lenovo acknowledges the problem and knows about its existence. But I am still curious if this problem can be fixed in the future without sending the laptop for repair. A new firmware update or something. Because as the other guys said, it takes some time until the machine is fixed, and some of us maybe cannot afford to not have the laptop at our disposal. But hopefully a solution will come in some form.

I'd like to ask how such an issue passed testing, is this a battery models specific issue ( as in, lenovo supplies 2 or 3 batteries with the same capacity but different internals/firmware, maybe each reigon has a different battery?), or was it a massive oversight on part of the driver programmers?

i'm from egypt and i think that all users from egypt will have the same issue unforuntaly

beside that as we see lenovo removed firmware from their site so they did not test it or know that this will make battery issue for users

also i opened the firmware folder and i read .txt file which is read me file and i found that frimware was for yoga c930 do n't remeber so was for another model laptop not legion y530

Hello guys, if you want to send it to tech service you can do it via this link; http://lenovo.enametech.com However, I strongly recommend you to do this via local vendor where you purchased the computer otherwise you need to schedule shipment by yourselves. If you deliver it to local vendor you don't have to worry about shipment. I must warn you! It takes very long time (20-30 days in Portugal - Local vendor PCDiga told me)

I have discovered what was wrong by the way; the new firmware was for a different voltage. In my opinion new firmware is for tablet versions that works with 5V but notebooks need 20V. So I think this is not a regional problem, I think it's global.

Hello,

Do you think that Lenovo cannot reverse de process with a release of a new firmware version?

Apparently this problem has affected all regions (I am from Russia). I wonder why the solution to this problem took so long (the driver came out almost a week ago), and btw they removed the driver from Lenovo's website, but not from Lenovo Vantage (from there I got mine), where it installs it automatically. It's strange that this incident didn't cause a widespread public reaction. I hope they resolve this problem soon.

What I don't understand is that what caused the issue in the first place. Because one day the battery works just fine. Then the firmware update comes up, but I can't download and install it, which means (I am guessing) that I am still using the old firmware. And that was working ok up until that point. But then suddenly the battery just isn't working. It's not like I downloaded the new faulty firmware update which messed up the battery. So I'm somewhat still clueless about what really happened.
