Lenovo Legion Y540-15IRH fans no longer going to max speed

I have had this issue once before and it fixed itsself somehow but it has returned and is not getting any better. Before when I would power on or boot up a game I would hear my fans actually begin to spin faster, but now they just seem to remain at a lower speed. Obviously this caused my laptop to run slower and made trying to run games a massive pain. I tried to look at manually setting the speeds of my fans on my laptop through Lenovo Fan Control through v1.26 because that is the only version compatable with my laptop, but it said that it could not read the embedded controller. Also, i tried the fn + Q keys but changing between quiet, automatic, and max modes made little to no difference in the speeds. I also turned on performance mode in vantage but that has yet to work either. I also did a hardware scan which didn't give me any  errors except for the fans not being detected, which I thought would be a problem but it looked that way for another person as well. I cannot control the Fan speeds through BIOS because there is no option available there for that either. I just want to know whether there is something wrong with the hardware for my fans or the software. And again, my fans are spinning, just not as fast as they used to when playing games.

Re:Lenovo Legion Y540-15IRH fans no longer going to max speed

Hi Ethan_Vang!

Welcome to the Community!

Let's check this out further. Since you've mentioned that the fans are not being detected in a hardware scan, it could potentially be a hardware issue. However, it's also possible that it's a software issue, especially if the fans are still spinning, just not at the speed you're used to.

I would recommend trying to update your system's BIOS if you haven't already. You can find the latest updates on our Lenovo Support website.

Also, change the Windows Power Mode and check if the fan speed will change as well. Best Performance should increase fan speed similar to Performance Mode by Fn+Q shortcut. Let us know how it goes.

Best regards,

Hector_Lenovo

Re:Lenovo Legion Y540-15IRH fans no longer going to max speed

Hi, I am also running into this issue as well with my 2023 Lenovo 7i Pro i9/RTX4080/32GB RAM. I called tier 2 and after all the trouble shooting I was advised to wait for an update or return my laptop ( I am within the 30 day mark)

is this a common problem with Legions? I am trying not to get rid of this laptop since this is my 3rd one with problems.
