Lenovo Legion Y540: GeForce RTX2060 dead

2019-08-21, 6:18 AM

Hi guys,

I just received my Legion Y540 with a RTX2060 and in a fraction of seconds my happiness changed to anger. I already regretted this purchased.

Everything was working fine, I was so **bleep** excited to play with it in my 4K TV when getting home and guess what?

During a Windows and drivers updated, the screen got black, the laptop frozen and the RTX2060 no longer works.

How awesome when you spent $2k into a laptop?

The only way to be able to use it somehow, is accessing the BIOS and change the graphic from Discrete Graphics to Switchable Graphics. That will use the Intel as primary and the RTX as secondary rather than the RTX 100% of the time.

I bought it with a 2y onsite warranty and already sent an email support reporting the problem

I don't know if anyone has any light at the end of the tunnel, I am just pissed and attempting to return it and ask for my money back. It already is presenting problem within 2h after turning it on, what to say when I start playing for real? So disappointed.

Thanks guys.

It may be just a corrupted driver.

You can go to the support page for your laptop and download the Nvidia driver.  Then do a clean installation by choosing Custom (Advanced) and checking the box for clean installation.

Also you can go into the Nvidia Control Panel by right clicking Desktop to change the Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings > to the Nvidia card.

Thank you for your help.

I don't think it's driver. The screen got black, the laptop stopped responding, and even during boot when you see the Lenovo logo, the screen is all screwed.

I even did a clean Windows install, installed Lenovo softwares and nothing.

I work with IT and I did everything I could without breaking the warranty.

The fact that the screen got back and the laptop froze, this a hardware issue.

If it was software, a clean Windows install with the generic driver, should have fixed the problem.

I'll find a way to contact Lenovo Australia by phone and return this.

I spent $2k on this laptop to not be able to use it within 2h after opening the box.

Contact lenovo using their chat, be ready to have pictures taken if you have any and ask for refund.

I am so pissed after spending AUD$2k for a piece of junk. DHL is going to pick up today and I should receive my money back within 3-5 business day. I took picture of everything, even the screws in case they wanna tell me bullsh*t.

Now, I am going to do what I should have done since the begging, build a AMD desktop gaming for AMD$1.7k, and I will never get close to their expensive devices again although I have to buy Lenovo where I work for. I bought a cheap $400 Lenovo IdeaPad V145 just to have "a laptop" to work from home.

If you still wanna have a gaming laptop, look after Acer Predator Helios 300. Here in Australia, Harvey Norman is selling the 2018 model for AUD$1866 and the 2019 for AUD$1952. This Predator has a lot of amazing reviews, performance, and it is the money I spent for this piece of junk.

Contact them. Good luck.

You might need to press Fn+F2 to enter the BIOS. Keep FN pressed than keep pressing F2 as soon as you turn it on.
