Lenovo Legion Y720 Compatible SSDs and RAM memory

I am considering buying the only 1 HDD TB variant of this laptop and i would like to know if it is possible to add an SSD to it (without removing the HDD). Also, how many RAM memory slots does it have?

Re: Lenovo Legion Y720 Compatible SSDs and RAM memory

The SSD and HDD can both be installed at the same time AND I believe you can remove/install either without touching the other.  The only thing under (actually above but will be below when the machine is upside down with the back panel off) the M.2 SSD is the XBox communication card thing.  On my Y720 I opted to get no HDD and the empty space where it would reside is not covered or obstructed by anything.  There are two memory slots, so if you get only 8GB of memory it will probably be a single 8GB module and the memory will only be running in single channel mode.  FYI - the factory installed memory on my Y720 was quality samsung stuff so the cost to go from 8GB to 16GB is a pretty good deal IIRC.  If you decide to go low on memory and upgrade later, it is CAS 17 latency so make sure you get some CAS 17 stuff for compatability and best performance with the motherboard/chipset.

Yes, the system comes with two slots HDD: 2.5" wide, 7mm high, SATA 6.0Gb/s | SSD: M.2 SSD / PCIe 3.0 x 4.

If you are planning to add SSD without removing the HDD you'll need M.2 SSDs like these. Also it has two SO-DIMM sockets which can handle upto 32GB max / DDR4 2400MHz.

I hope the above information helped you.

Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Regards,
Prabhansh

Yes, it will not affect the warranty, just make sure you are not damaging the product while doing it.

Re: Lenovo Legion Y720 Compatible SSDs and RAM memory

Should I unplug the power cable on mainboard while doing this or can I put it in it. On one laptop I unpluged it and changed the rams to 32 GB  (Y720) than I had no more Sound. I guess there was a power damage or something. I guess it is not a godd idea to unplug the power cable on the mainboard. Can anybody confirm it??
