Lenovo Y520-15IKBN - fresh Win Installation

Hey everybody,

I am trying to install Windows 10 x64 over USB (Created with Microsoft tool).

BIOS version: 4KCN43WW

What I want is to install Windows in UEFI Mode (Not legacy), but when I set everything in BIOS I can’t see USB on boot menu.

I can use it and install it when I set:

Boot Mode: Legacy Support

Boot Priority: UEFI First

But that is not an option, I don’t want my Windows to be on Legacy mode.

I am not able to install it like that and switch to UEFI after, keep getting error that HardDrive cannot be found.

SATA Controller Mode is on ACHI.

OS Optimized Defaults is on ENABLED.

Secure Boot is DISABLED.

Fast Boot is DISABLED.

If anyone has any solution that I didn’t try it would be great.

If you are trying to install a Windows 10 install image downloaded from Microsoft, the install image supports both UEFI and legacy, so you can install in either mode.

Enabling "Legacy Support" in the BIOS does not force Windows to install in legacy mode (MBR partition table).  Rather, I think that it is the type of partition table on the destination disk that determines the mode:

(1) GPT partition table supports only UEFI

(2) MBR partition table supports only legacy

Check the type of partition table on the destination disk.  If it is MBR, you need to change it to GPT.  To do this, boot from the USB memory stick (using "Legacy Support"), and then open a command window and use the DISKPART command to display the disk info.  This should indicate the type of partition table.  If it is MBR, use DISKPART to convert the disk to GPT (you will need to delete all of the existing MBR partitions first).

Before starting this, you should look at the help for DISKPART to see what commands you need to use to perform these actions while DISKPART is running.

You are gona hit the wall if you do this with BIOS 43WW there are multiple post going on here that says that 43WW BIOS has lots of issues. I would suggest you go back to 40WW and then do all this. later you can update
