Lenovo Y520 Terrible Performance and non functional Touchpad

Hi, everyone.

I bought my Lenovo Y520 last week and it has absolutely terrible performance.

not to mention the ridiculous lag even when using notepad.

I started using my touchpad for awhile and now it doesen't work.

How could a 1 week old laptop perform so bad Smiley Sad

Please help, I'm thinking about selling this thing immediately.

Re: Lenovo Y520 Terrible Performance and non functional Touchpad

Hi,

i freshinstalled the laptop again, im playing cs:go and Lol with 100-150 fps. But when i try to use OBS to record the fps drops to 60, and when im streaming the computer dies..

With full graphics lol run in 120+ fps and cs:go 90+ fpsç

I think i need more RAM and More Ghaphic memory like 8GB. The processor is one of the best in the market.

What games do you play?

Re: Lenovo Y520 Terrible Performance and non functional Touchpad

Hi, There I currently own the i5 4gb ram GTX 1050 ti entry model.

I play games like Dota2, Resident Evil 7, Warframe and Wolfenstein 2.

I haven't had a single good game experience with either one of the games.

I literally skip frames when I play and it lags like crazy.

In Wolfenstein 2, it would take me 30 seconds just to get out of a hallway because the frames get stuck.

Do I need more ram?

It can't even open a web browser properly Smiley Sad

I hope someone from Lenovo can reach out and help.

I am unimpressed Smiley Sad

Re: Lenovo Y520 Terrible Performance and non functional Touchpad

HI,

you can try adding more RAM to get 16GB, i don't know where do you live, in USA it will cost nothing But if you are from America Latina like me its very expensive to buy 8 gb more, so i refused to broadcast my games, im only playing...

Re: Lenovo Y520 Terrible Performance and non functional Touchpad

Thanks for this, I'm from the Philippines and its pretty expensive over here as well.

This Laptop is only a month old and it performs so bad.

I've seen game reviews on the i5 y520 4gb ram and it runs smoothly.

I haven't even been able to play a decent game on this laptop since.

I've literally just been tinkering with it to perform properly because it doesen't.

I am currently experiencing 100% on my disk usage without anything open.

I don't know why everything is lagging on this laptop.

I'll give it a couple of weeks more to tweak this.

I'll buy new ram like 12 gig worth, if it still doesen't work properly I'm selling this thing.

This is the most disappointing purchase of my year and I couldn't even get a hand of anyone from Lenovo to help me out Smiley Sad

I can't contact them through chat or anything Smiley Sad

The only thing that this laptop is good for is notepad like seriously.

Even playing something at extremely low graphics will lag and skip frames.

Does this thing really run on a GTX 1050? its absolutely terrible.

Come on Lenovo, please help me out Smiley Sad

Re: Lenovo Y520 Terrible Performance and non functional Touchpad

Dude I have the exact same issue. Got the ikbm 80yy with the 1 tb hdd and gtx 1060 maxQ. The problem is definitely NOT the RAM. 8 gigs of ram is enough, especially since it lags in everything (even small games). I have checked RAM usage and it pretty much never exceeds 70%. The HDD however is stuck at 100% most of the time. Sometimes it can stay at 10% but still jump up and down. Same goes for the CPU usage. It is more stable, but does spike with the HDD sometimes.

Instead of spending money on RAM, I suggest, you buy a PCIe M.2 SSD and install windows on there. Don't know if it will help, but that's your best choice.

I, however, will go see a technician and find out what is wrong. It ain't cheap, but I've got to find out.

Here is an example of my terrible, spiky HDD usage.

Re: Lenovo Y520 Terrible Performance and non functional Touchpad

You sure it's the win 10? why doesn't everyone have this problem then? Don't understand why everyone tries to just blame windows, when there clearly is some other issue.
BTW I have tried googling and nothing helps.

Re: Lenovo Y520 Terrible Performance and non functional Touchpad

I have this issue in my computers. I do not blame windows but the OS is not perfect as u know... U can try dissabling "automatic defrag disk" in disk options. Then disabling the service "BITS" in services.msc. That worked for me

I will try that. But yeah, windows 10 is garbage, but doesnt cause all problems. Personally, windows 7 was my favorite.
