Re: Lenovo Y540 Audio desync (Audio ahead of Video)

2019-11-17, 20:28 PM

Just to get this right, i got another chat with Lenovo, they now told me it's ok to upgrade your RAM and SSD as long as you dont break anything in this process.
Apart from that there is still no delay with Win10 on the second SSD. i guess i will send it in anyway, since i want to have a perfect device for my money... Let's see what they will find out about this.

Ack257, it is ok to change the SSD or HDD, bit in my case (i changed the 1 TB HDD to a 2TB HHD) i received an invoice, the there is a not original HDD in the Notebook and that is the problem for the sound delay, and if i want to get this repaired, i have to pay 154€ for a new HDD.

And at this time the 2 TB HDD was empty,  the function was perfect and nothing was installed on it....

So it can be a problem with the service....

Hey Nappi16,

yeah, they told me to put all my stuff back out befor i send it in and make a full reset. they said they need the device like it first came to figure out whats wrong with the setup.

You should definitely insist on a repair. Tell them about this thread and the other users facing this problem. It cant be your upgrade when hundrets of people have the same issue with the original setup. I had the best experience with a facebook post on lenovos page, from there on they started to listen to what is going on...
Hope this helps and you finally get a properly working device back.

Please all who sent the laptop to the repair center update the status. I did it - they installed the original lenovo Windows 10 image and they are right - everything is working fine BUT only if I use Edge.

With Chrome I still get desync and I tried already everything.

I will buy a new SSD in two weeks and update all of you if this solved the issue. I do  not understand why Lenovo does not post anything or provide a solution.

Re: Lenovo Y540 Audio desync (Audio ahead of Video)

There is a workaround that seems to have worked in a similar case.

Try this:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Gaming-Laptops/Lenovo-Y540-crackling-sound/td-p/4448320/page/25?fbclid=IwAR2_XX2I4zV2hXzdHJl0Qu5q3nMufea9YytW5ihJhh60Qev2hO37b1WaRlg

  1. Download an install the latest BIOS from Lenovo's site (BHCN32WW)

-> This will take through a reboot and all, just let it sit and don't touch your notebook while updating

  1. Shut down your PC
  2. Use a small pin (for example a SIM-Card removal tool from your phone) and poke it into the whole between the USB Port and the Power LED in the right of the Notebook
  3. The notebook should start and give you a small menu
  4. Select "Setup Bios"
  5. Select "Configuration" by pressing the right arrow key
  6. Select "Slow slew rate for ia domain"  (arrow down) and press enter
  7. Select "fast/8" and press enter
  8. Press the F10 key to reboot"

Re: Lenovo Y540 Audio desync (Audio ahead of Video)

Thanks for finally providing response from someone from Lenovo support.

I have already bios version BHCN32WW and Slow slew rate for ia domain value of fast/8 selected, and I still get audio desync when using Chrome, or Edge beta (with Chromium) browser. When using regular Microsoft Edge browser, I get no desync.

I have some serious DPC latency issues and audio crackling and popping as well, and I have literally tried everything to solve this.

Will Lenovo provide some software or BIOS updates to tackle those issues?

Thanks for the reponse from Lenovo Support.

I already tried this, my laptop was in the repair center and before this I updated the BIOS as well.

Again - just tried slew rate and both fast/8 and fast/16 leads to the same symptoms. I have perfect stream in "normal" Edge and desync in Chrome (all services affected, cable connected internet, external monitor, DSL 100 Mbit/s internet). The same issue with build in monitor (when the laptop is using the internal iGPU). I tried Realtek and Windows Audio drivers, spetial sound off, Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos, different sound quality.

No problems on an older laptop with i3 3210m and 4GB Ram - all strems are ok in all browsers.

Please provide some solution, will avoid to buy a new SSD for a new laptop for over 1000€.

Re: Lenovo Y540 Audio desync (Audio ahead of Video)

2019-11-18, 20:59 PM

Guys, I think I found the solution to desync, audio cracking, popping and latency issues!!!!!!!

This evening I started to notice desync in Edge too. It was really going on to my nerves, so I have decided to try some more driver updates. I updated diferent drivers manualy in Device Manager (right click and then "Update driver"). However, that didn't solve the issue.

Then, I opened the "Storage controllers" section in Device Manager and there where two devices: "Standard NVM express controller" and "Microsoft storage spaces controller". I then right clicked on "Standard NVM express controller" and then "Update driver" , "Browse my computer for driver software" and "Let mi pick from list...". I then browsed into folder of the Intel IRST driver (c:\Drivers\Intel IRST Driver\Source\), and selected the first file. That was the Intel IRST driver downloaded from Lenovo support page for our laptop. After selecting that file there was "Intel Chipset SATA/PCIe RST Premium Controller" to select and install instead of "Standard NVM express controller". There will be message that it might not be compatible or something similiar, but just go with it. I then restarted laptop, and everything was working! No latency in LatencyMon, no delay in Chrome or Edge, even Latency Checker shows no more red bars!

I tested it only for 30 minutes, but I'm sure it solved all the issues. Maybe some other driver updates did the trick, but I think the one explained above did the trick. Just in case, I'm gonna post all my drivers in HTML again. Also, fast startup is off, but I don't think that matters too.

Please try and report back!

This helped me too
