Lenovo Y540 doesn't see my m2 SSD

2019-06-16, 16:38 PM

So I bought a Lenovo Y540 with only 1tb HDD. But the HDD is to slow, so I bought an NVME SDD from samsung: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500gb.

But now comes the trouble with lenovo again. My motherboard doesn't see the SSD.... Please help me. If this can't be fixed I'll have to send this laptop back and buy from a different brand.

I can't at the moment, but make sure that your SSD is compatible like the ones shown here:

If it is, are you sure you popped it in correctly? Have you looked for it in Device Manager or disk management (Type in the start "Disk Management" and press enter)?

There are many solutions to try:

BTW, this is a common problem and is far from being Lenovo-specific.

SSD doesn't popup in laptop nor does it pop up on my gigabyte z170 gaming 5 motherboard. Ofcourse I checked if it shows up in windows on both devices, but it doesn't.

Every NVME drive should work, it's not any different than the 960 PRO. I have put my 960 pro from my main pc in to the laptop and it showed up in bios. I think the 970 Evo pus was dead on arrival.

Glad you had another motherboard to test it on. Make sure to return it or get a replacement, glad you figured it out.
