Hi there Lenovo community!
I recently bought the 15-inch edition of the Y700 from Best Buy. I don't have it in my possession yet, but I'm already beginning to look for extra accessories and upgrades. For starters, it only comes with a 1TB HDD, and I wanted to get a SMALL M.2 SSD for the boot drive, just to get that extra burst of speed.
Again, I don't need it to be big (especially since I'm trying to save money), so it can be below 100GB. So I just need to know exactly what M.2 model is compatible with this unit. Also, this model (80NW000PUS) apparently only comes with 8GB of RAM...is 16GB necessary or am I fine with only 8?
Hope to see some responses soon, thanks!

Hi Prince_AKR ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Similar to your query here in this discussion as fellow member also plans upgrade for additional SSD .
" Standard Memory • DDR4-2133 MHz, SODIMM × 2 (max 16 GB)
Hard disk drive • SSD, NGFF, 128 GB / 256 GB / 512 GB
So to answer your question, a 16GB RAM and 128GB is doable on this machine."
Further details as follows on the post.
8 GB is considered a sweet spot for basic to moderate computing need and 16GB would be useful for those using a lot of virtual application/ os and a lot of browser page all open at the same time. The FRU listing on your hardware manual would provide lenovo part numbers used on the model but do not limit users of their choices.
Hope this help answer your query for a good planned upgrade.

Just for supplemental info, pretty much any M.2 2280 SSD should work fine. I have dual SSDs in mine, and it works fine:
Indeed, 8GB should be fine. I put 16GB in my model for virtualization (running VMs), and on average, I never break 8GB unless the game has a memory leak or needs LOTS of RAM (Fallout 4 with 3GB+ of mods).

Which specific model is your Y700? I am curious to know since I will be doing some upgrades soon and have been tracking that info against the Lenovo machine type information. E.G., the 80xxx xxxxx number from the bottom of the laptop case. Thanks and appreciate the pictures btw.
