Permanent. I was sent a utility to try. It can write to var 0xC10 so after a reboot the DMI link operates at PCIe 3 speed. The missing perf is unlocked. I'll write up the steps on my blog for all and sundry to follow. Will be good to see what the 960 evo and pro user get now.

Really happy that you made it happen!!! I am one of those owners, i got my 950 Pro in the Y700-17ISK replaced by a 960 Pro.
Waiting patiently to see its true performance unfolded!

If you have a 960 pro or evo i would like to see your results also as my 950 pro (256GB gets very close to rated specs now)

I just modified the bios with 03 and the results are awesome.

Old Bios with 02 setting
Modified Bios with 03 setting
SEQUENTIAL READ - Up to 3,200 MB/sec
SEQUENTIAL WRITE - 500 GB: Up to 1,800 MB/sec
RANDOM READ (4KB, QD32) - 500 GB: Up to 330,000 IOPS (Thread 4)
RANDOM WRITE (4KB, QD32) - 500 GB: Up to 330,000 IOPS (Thread 4)
